Having gathered as many as six or more monks, having taken off both shoes, having placed the upper robe on one shoulder, and having prostrated to the elder, one should squat beside the elder, fold one's palms, and say these words: 'Venerable ones, please listen. I, the monk named so-and-so, have committed a grave offense resulting from such-and-such an action of such-and-such a category from the section of offenses that lead to defeat. I, the monk named so-and-so, confess this offense before the venerable ones. If I confess, I will abide in comfort; if I do not confess, I will not,' repeating this three times. One of the elders among the listeners should say, 'Have you seen the offense?' The confessor should say, 'I have seen it.' The listeners should say, 'Will you refrain from now on?' The confessor should say, 'I will refrain,' repeating this two or three times. After that, the listeners should say, 'This is the method.' The confessor should say, 'Very well.' By doing so, one is released from the grave offense of defeat. The ritual and mantra for confessing a minor offense of defeat can be performed inside or outside the boundary. Gather monks who have taken full ordination and abide naturally, as well as four or more individuals who are of the same type, have committed offenses, and have different names and lineages. Having taken off both shoes, having placed the upper robe on one shoulder, and having prostrated to the elder, one should squat beside the elder, fold one's palms, and say these words: 'Venerable ones, please listen. I, the monk named so-and-so, have committed a minor offense resulting from such-and-such an action of such-and-such a category from the section of offenses that lead to defeat. The confessor should say, 'I will refrain,' repeating this two or three times.

After that, the listener should say, "This is the method." The confessor should say, "Excellent." That is all, and the gross offense of incurring a Parajika is alleviated. If such a gross offense is confessed, then the misdeed of its action need not be confessed separately. The fundamental method of rectifying a Parajika offense is also through confession and repentance, liberating oneself from the root of the Parajika offense. Among these, confessing the root of a Parajika offense is: a Bhikshu should not conceal his faults. Once any of the four roots of Parajika offenses has occurred, even with just a single thought of concealment, one should not conceal it. Instead, one should immediately take off one's shoes and, facing a monk who has received full ordination like oneself, who is naturally abiding, who has the same view, who resides within the same boundary, and who is one, two, or many who differ from oneself in the name and lineage of the offense, or a Sangha within the same boundary, residing in separate dwellings, or all the Sangha gathered together, one may do so. Squat down in front of them, join palms and bow the head, state the category of the offense and the type that occurred, and confess. The mantra for this is as follows: Venerable ones, please listen. I, the Bhikshu named so-and-so, have committed an offense of the category of Parajika, of the type so-and-so. I, the Bhikshu named so-and-so, confess this offense before the Venerable ones. I do not conceal it. If I confess, I will abide in comfort; if I do not confess, I will not. Repeat this three times. After that, one listener should say, "This is the method." The confessor should say, "Excellent." That is all, and it is considered a confession. If at that moment there is no one to confess to, then there is no offense of concealment until dawn. As long as one has not found someone to confess to, even if dawn has broken, there is no offense of concealment if one has not confessed. If there is no one to confess to, as long as one has not found someone to confess to, there is no offense of concealment if one does not have the intention to confess. Even if there is someone to confess to, but due to some reason, one does not have the opportunity to go there, or one has left that place.
