If one is fully ordained and abides in their own nature, has the same view and name, and resides within the boundary, and there is no inconsistency with the offense in name and kind, then one should confess to someone of the same religious order. After that, a Bhikshu who is fully ordained and abides in his own nature, has the same view and name, and resides within the boundary, should confess to someone who is inconsistent with the offense in name and kind. If there is no one inconsistent in name, then one should confess to someone inconsistent in kind. Here, name refers to the category of offense. Kind refers to the offense that occurred. The so-called same religious order refers to Bhikshus and those who have given vows, Bhikshunis, Shramaneras, Shramanerikas, Upasakas, Upasikas, and laypeople who reside within the boundary and have the Tathagata's view, and those who reside in other boundaries and have inconsistent views. Here, the classification of them is: if one confesses to a fully ordained person who is inconsistent in name, it will not become concealment, but it will become a misdeed. If one confesses to those who are not fully ordained, it will not become concealment, but from knowing a bad conduct, it will become an offense. From not knowing a bad conduct, it will become a misdeed. If one confesses to any of those of the same religious order who reside in other boundaries or have inconsistent views, it will not become concealment, but it will become a misdeed. If one confesses to a Bhikshu who is not fully ordained and does not abide in his own nature, it will also not become concealment, but it will become a misdeed. If a Bhikshu is fully ordained and abides in his own nature, has the same view and name, and resides within the boundary, and confesses to someone who is consistent with the offense in name and kind, it will also not become concealment, but it will become a misdeed. If a Bhikshu is fully ordained and abides in his own nature, has the same view and name, and resides within the boundary, and confesses to someone who is inconsistent with the offense in name and kind, it will neither become concealment nor become an offense, and the same applies to other subsequent situations. Generally speaking, confessing an offense requires reciting the confession mantra completely. If one cannot recite the confession mantra completely, even if one only understands one name or kind, it is considered confession. The confession mantra must be recited completely. When confessing a misdeed, it is not necessary to state the name and kind.

Now, I have incurred a transgression, or I have done something inappropriate, in whatever way it is recognized. Except for the root downfall, for all other transgressions such as preparatory actions and misdeeds, if there is concealment, then the previously concealed fault should be remedied first, and then the subsequent transgression itself should be known to be remedied. Remedying the concealed fault is to confess the name and category of the transgression, and how long it was concealed. For a sangha residue offense, if there is a concealed fault, it must be eliminated by a karma called "removal," which will be explained below. If one does not confess or repent when there is an opportunity to confess and repent, then for each day, one will incur a misdeed. The person to whom one confesses must be a fully ordained bhikshu, abiding in his own nature, with the same view and discipline, residing within the same boundary, and whose transgression differs in name and category from one's own, then one should confess to him. Repentance should not be done to others of a different sect in any way. For the remedy of the preparatory action and gross offense of a root downfall, it is also necessary to be liberated from the downfall of the gross offense through the two methods of confession and repentance. Among them, confession means that a bhikshu should not conceal a transgression. If one has committed any preparatory gross offense of the four root downfalls, whether heavy or light, even if only a slight intention to conceal arises, one should not conceal it. One should immediately take off one's shoes, and in front of a fully ordained bhikshu, who abides in his own nature, with the same view and discipline, residing within the same boundary, and whose transgression differs in name and category from one's own, squat down, join palms, and respectfully recite the category name of the transgression and the category that was committed, and confess. The mantra for this is as follows: Venerable one, please listen. I, the bhikshu named so-and-so, have committed a gross offense resulting from the preparatory action of such-and-such category belonging to the category of root downfalls. I, the bhikshu named so-and-so, confess this transgression before the venerable one, and do not conceal it. If I confess, I will abide in contact with happiness, but if I do not confess, I will not. Repeat this three times. After that, the listener should say:
