Or having caused dissension, or with malicious intent drawing blood from the Tathagata, or even saying this: "I, like you, live together with those who are harmonious in Dharma and behave like Brahma," or saying "content with enjoyment," if any of these words "present," "please accept," "enough" are spoken, then surely the training is abandoned. Conversely, the training is not abandoned. The ways in which the training is not abandoned are as follows: If a monk, being angry and overcome by anger, and being mad, mentally disturbed, and afflicted by feelings, etc., abandons the training, then it is not a true abandonment. If the listener, being angry and overcome by anger, and being mad, mentally disturbed, and afflicted by feelings, etc., abandons the training, then it is not a true abandonment. If the listener is foolish, mute, deaf, sleeping, in meditative absorption, speaks a language of the central region or a remote region, and does not understand terms and expressions, etc., then abandoning the training is not a true abandonment. If one perceives a solitary place as solitary, or perceives a non-solitary place as solitary, or perceives a non-solitary place as solitary, then abandoning the training is not a true abandonment. Abandoning the training to gods, emanations, animals, images, etc., non-human beings, is not a true abandonment, because there is no intention to abandon the training, and none of the previously shown rituals of offering, either the body or their expressive actions, have been understood, this is called not abandoning the training. It is called not having violated the training, because if one practices without having violated the training, one will incur a downfall, but for those who have violated the training, since there is no discipline, no downfall is established for their practice. Now, the ritual for violating the training is as follows: If a monk desires, is displeased, wants to wander and does not seek the meaning of the conduct of a renunciate, or is lazy in the conduct of a renunciate, or is defrocked, or doubts, or reviles, or wants to completely abandon the conduct of a renunciate, then he should go to someone who belongs to the community of monks or human beings, whose nature has not deteriorated, who is capable of understanding the meaning of expressions, and say this:

May the venerable one know! It is difficult to practice celibacy, it is difficult to practice extreme solitude, it is difficult to rejoice in being alone, and it is difficult to comprehend dwelling in places such as monasteries, forests, foothills, and remote areas. It is painful to live alone in a monastery, one remembers parents, siblings, and children. Please allow me to learn crafts, please find all my work, please settle me in a good home. If one utters such words, terms, names, sounds, expressions and definitive words, the path of words and the sound of words, the actions of speech and the expressions of speech, then one has violated the precepts. Conversely, it does not constitute a violation of the precepts. Abandoning the precepts and violating the precepts are both similar to having no vows. Abandoning the precepts is without vows from the perspective of abandoning the precepts, while abandoning the precepts and violating them is without vows from the perspective of the object of the precepts being powerless. Among these, there are those who abandon the precepts without violating them, those who violate the precepts without abandoning them, those who both violate and abandon the precepts, and those who neither abandon nor violate the precepts. Among these, the first case is abandoning the precepts without violating them, because the cause is not indicated, it is incomplete, therefore, only establishing abandoning the precepts without violating them as the first case. Even if one has abandoned the precepts without violating them, the nature of a monk does not exist for him. The second case is violating the precepts without abandoning them, because the result is not indicated, it is incomplete, therefore, only establishing violating the precepts without abandoning them as the second case. Even if one has not abandoned the precepts but violates them, the nature of a monk does not exist for him. The third case is that for anyone who does not have the nature of a monk, because both the cause and the result are indicated, it is complete, therefore, establishing both violating and abandoning the precepts as the third case, and for him, the nature of a monk does not exist.
