When the Blessed One was dwelling in the village of Kalandaka in Spongjed Dagna, Kalandaka's son, Good Giving, having shaved his hair and beard and donned the ochre robes in the Dharma and Vinaya well-taught by the Blessed One, went forth from home to homelessness out of pure faith. When he was dwelling in a monastery hut, he was seduced by his mother, and together with his former wife, he engaged in impure conduct, relying on sexual acts. Among the many teachings like leaking places, the first was caused by Kalandaka's son, Good Giving, engaging in impure conduct. The Blessed One, having observed this event, this origin, and this occasion, convened the Sangha of monks and, having fully seen the ten benefits of establishing precepts, established the basis of training for the Shravakas in the Vinaya. From then on, due to each origin, by establishing each basis of training, the five categories of offenses were thus established, and now those will be explained as they were established. Among them, the characteristics of all the bases of training pertaining to offenses are extensively taught through the origin, the establishment of training, and the establishment of offenses. Among them, the origin has four aspects: place, person, affliction, and the distinction of the basis of offense. The establishment of training is the five categories of offenses that include naturally blameworthy and prescribed blameworthy, and prohibit what is contrary to the world and contrary to the Vinaya. The establishment of offenses is the establishment in various ways of the main object, the action, and the action of the action, through intention and application. Among them, for the time being, as it is said: "Impure conduct and stealing, Not killing others, False speech and what is prescribed, These four dharmas are declared here." As the order spoken, the four dharmas that lead to defeat will be explained in order. Among them, the origin of the defeat caused by impure conduct has two aspects: prescribed and subsequently prescribed. The prescribed origin is when the Buddha, the Blessed One, was dwelling in the village of Kalandaka in Spongjed Dagna, Kalandaka's son, Good Giving, having shaved his hair and beard in the Dharma and Vinaya well-taught by the Blessed One.

Then, having distributed the shrouds of the dead, initially, solely for the true reason, he renounced the household life for homelessness. While dwelling in a monastic hut, he was deceived by his own mother, and he engaged in impure conduct with his former wife, adhering to the dharma of sexual intercourse. At the time of establishing the root precepts, the monks reported this to the Blessed One, and the Blessed One, because of this event, this origin, and this occasion, assembled the monastic community of monks. Having truly seen the ten benefits of establishing the precepts, my disciples who are hearers should recite the basis of training in the Vinaya in this way: 'Again, any monk who, together with the monks, has become equal in training, without abandoning the training, without renouncing the training, engages in impure conduct, adheres to the dharma of sexual intercourse, that monk is defeated and shall not dwell.' Thus, it was established. The place is abandonment. The person is Good Giving. The affliction is desire. The fault is impure conduct. The subsequent occasion for establishment was when the Buddha, the Blessed One, was dwelling in the Kalanda location in the grove of Light in Rajagriha, a certain monk was dwelling in a monastic hut.

And for the sake of cutting off the outflows, and for the sake of the comfortable abiding of those who know shame, and for the sake of making those who do not believe believe, and for the sake of making those who believe increase, and for the sake of restraining the outflows of this life, and for the sake of averting the outflows of future lives, my pure conduct, which benefits many beings, having become vast, will be rightly and thoroughly shown among gods and humans, and will remain for a long time, so it was said. Among these, "for the sake of gathering the Sangha" is a word of summary teaching, namely, the four castes, the royal caste, the Brahmin, the merchant caste, and the commoner caste, those who have gone forth from home to homelessness with faith only in goodness, this is begun from gathering them. "For the sake of making the Sangha excellent," those who have thus gone forth, abandoning the extreme of striving after the enjoyments of desire, together with the basis, together with renunciation, together with overcoming, together with miraculous Dharma teachings, by following after, it should be known that the Sangha will become excellent. "For the sake of making the Sangha abide in comfort," is for the sake of completely abandoning the extreme of striving after one's own labor. This becomes abiding in comfort in five ways: by expelling persons who are not in harmony with the Dharma, by eliminating regret that has arisen, by having the requisites as conditions, by overcoming the entanglements of afflictions, and by abandoning the latent tendencies of afflictions. Among these, expelling persons who are not in harmony with the Dharma is shown by "for the sake of cutting off persons who are not respectful," namely, for the sake of censuring those who are immoral. Eliminating regret that has arisen is shown by "for the sake of making those who know shame abide in comfort," namely, for the sake of making those who possess morality free from regret. Having the requisites as conditions is shown by the two phrases "for the sake of making those who do not believe believe, and for the sake of making those who believe increase," namely, for the sake of making those who have not entered enter, and for the sake of making those who have entered fully ripen. The entanglements of afflictions
