I am pressing it. Are there also enemies in the dwelling? Why can't you even tolerate my second bowl, saying you are my greatest enemy? Why do those monks with few desires, while having and possessing a bowl, seek other bowls and are scolded? When being pointed out, being scolded, the monks reported to the Blessed One. Then, because of this event, this origin, this occasion, the Blessed One gathered the monastic community of monks, rebuked Nanda, and scolded him in various ways. The Blessed One said to the monks: Monks, therefore, a monk, while having and possessing a bowl, should not seek other bowls. After the Blessed One said that a monk, while having and possessing a bowl, should not seek other bowls, a beggar's bowl was slightly cracked, and he took that cracked bowl and went to Shravasti to beg for alms. He obtained some flour and filled the bowl with it. He also obtained some wet porridge and filled the bowl with it. Then, because of leakage, the flour became wet, and those things soiled the bowl, and many bees surrounded it. Some boys and girls mocked him, and the benefactor Anathapindika also urged him why he didn't find another bowl, and that beggar said: The Blessed One has forbidden monks from seeking other bowls while having and possessing a bowl. The benefactor Anathapindika said: Venerable, do you possess such a bowl? When they said this, the monks reported to the Blessed One. The Blessed One said: Whoever's bowl is broken should repair it. Do not repair it with five soft patches, namely, brown sugar, the residue of coarse sugar, beeswax, gum, and red clay, but repair it with five hard patches, namely, long patches, small seals, patches, patches shaped like crocodile teeth, and flour. There are two kinds of flour:

They are iron powder and stone powder. Iron bowls should be repaired with iron powder. Earthen bowls should be repaired with stone powder. Iron powder is mixed with oil, rubbed with iron or kuruvinda, and becomes like beeswax. It is used to repair the bowl when it is warm, covered with wheat, coated with mud, and heated slightly. It is soaked in oil and rubbed with smooth stones, etc. Stone powder is mixed with brown sugar and mud, and done as before. If it is an iron bowl that is used regularly, it should be burned every six months. Earthen bowls should be burned every half month. There should be no food left in the bowl. When the bowl is broken, it should not be sewn with thread. From the time the Blessed One taught various precepts, praised respect for the precepts, and reduced the requisites for the precepts, he spoke to the monks about the Dharma that was in accordance with this, mostly the same as this, and in accordance with this, and observed that there were ten benefits to establishing the precepts, so my disciples should recite the root of learning in the Vinaya in this way: If a monk's bowl does not have five patches, and he can clearly use it, but because he wants a good one, he seeks another bowl, and if he obtains a bowl, he commits a Nissaggiya Pacittiya offense. That monk should distribute that bowl to the Sangha of monks. The worst bowl in that Sangha of monks should be given to that monk, telling that monk, you should not bless this bowl. Do not abandon it. Do not give it to others, but use it slowly until it is completely broken. Thus it should be given, and for this, this is the ritual. The place is Shravasti. The person is Nanda. The afflictions are desire and anger. The offense is that even though he has a bowl, he still seeks another bowl. Among them, the so-called "monk" refers to one who belongs to this Dharma. The so-called "bowl without five patches" means that the bowl does not have five patches complete. The so-called "clearly can be used" means that it can be used completely. The so-called "because he wants a good one" means wanting a better one.
