Regarding all that is said to be "established," questions were asked from "How should one hold it?" to "How should one establish it?" The Blessed One replied, "Except for those made of the precious materials of the attendant Ānanda." Such words exist. Bowls of copper, red copper, earthenware, and wood should not be possessed. Those bowls of red copper, etc., possessed before ordination, or those not used by oneself but related to others, if circumstances arise where they must be used, should be valued as medicine bowls and used, and one should learn to rely on alms, etc. The earliest scriptural authority for this is: "What is not established should not be established." The later scriptural authority is: "What is established should be fully enjoyed through the use of a medicine bowl." There are two types of bowls that can be blessed: those made of iron and those made of earth. These two should be blessed. To show the types of precious substances, it is said that "gems, pearls, beryl, conch shell, coral, silver, gold, stone essence, sphatik, red substances, right-spiraling conch shells, etc., are precious." One should not possess these, and one should learn not to touch or allow others to touch what should not be touched. The relics of the Buddha, etc., are also the same. Returning is as before. The abandonment of touching gold and silver, the eighteenth section, has been explained. The sixteenth fascicle of the Extensive Commentary on the Prātimokṣa Sūtra, the Collected Compendium of the Vinaya, the basis for abandonment practiced by those with characteristics, is of two types due to arising and other causes. Among these, for now, the basis for arising is that the Buddha, the Blessed One, was dwelling in Śrāvastī, in the Jeta Grove, in the Garden of Anāthapiṇḍada. When the Blessed One appeared in the world, everywhere the sound spread that "the Buddha, the Blessed One, has appeared in the central region," and his disciples were like burning, clarity, and rain.
