Those faithful people, squeezing their skin, flesh, and blood, giving and giving alms, making merits, while the monks are unaware of the cold and warmth, enjoying without discrimination, thinking like this in their hearts. Then, the Blessed One shook and dusted those old cushions well, spread them out, dried them in the sun, made sure they didn't touch the wall, cooled his feet outside the monastery, and entered the monastery to enter into meditation. After that, a monk returned from begging for alms, bringing the food he had begged for, and went to where the Blessed One was. The Dharma nature of the Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, is that for the monk who begs for alms, they will individually rejoice: "Monk, did you get food? Was the Sangha of monks satisfied?" Because of this individual rejoicing, the Blessed One asked the monk who begged for alms: "Monk, did you get food? Was the Sangha of monks satisfied?" He replied: "Venerable, I got food, and the Sangha of monks was satisfied." After that, the Blessed One finished his meal, cooled his feet outside the monastery, and entered the monastery to enter into meditation. After that, the Blessed One arose from meditation in the afternoon, and sat down on the prepared seat in the midst of the Sangha of monks. After sitting down, the Blessed One said to the monks: "Monks, I thought that not long after the Sangha of monks left here, I took the key and went from one garden to another, from one monastery to another, from one house to another, from one corner to another, from one intersection to another, gradually walking, and arrived at a monastery in a large house. I saw in that monastery of the large house, many old cushions, torn and worn, mixed with dust, scattered on the ground. After seeing this, I exclaimed 'Aima!' and rebuked it, thinking: 'Brahmins and faithful householders, squeezing their skin, flesh, and blood, giving and giving alms, making merits.'

Regarding those things that purify misdeeds, the monks think, 'They do not understand warmth, and they enjoy them without discriminating thought.' Monks, you should enjoy the things given in faith with moderate warmth, restrainedly, on time, after careful observation, and in moderation; that is good. Then, the Blessed One praised the enjoyment of moderate warmth, restraint, timeliness, observation, and moderation, and said to the monks: 'Monks, therefore, in order to correctly see the ten benefits, my disciples should declare the root of learning in discipline in this way: When a monk uses a new seat, in order to make the color unappealing, he should mend it with an old seat surrounded by a span of the Tathagata.' If a monk, in order to make the color of a new seat unappealing, does not mend the new seat with an old seat surrounded by a span of the Tathagata and uses the new seat, he commits a forfeitable offense. When the Blessed One established this precept, the place was Shravasti, the objects were many monks, the afflictions were not understanding warmth and enjoying without discriminating thought, and the fault was discarding the old seat without mending the new seat with the old. Among them, 'monk' refers to the one who upholds this Dharma. 'Seat' refers to individual seats. 'New' refers to two kinds of new: newly made and newly obtained. Here, it refers to newly made. 'To do' means to do it oneself or to have others do it. 'In order to make the new color unappealing' means to make the new one firm. 'Should mend it with an old seat surrounded by a span of the Tathagata' means if he has another old seat surrounded by a span of the Tathagata. 'Tathagata' refers to the teacher. The span of the Tathagata is half an ell of a measured cubit. 'Surrounded' means that it is one span high everywhere. 'To mend' means to connect. If a monk, in order to make the new color unappealing
