Here, too, one should understand the characteristics of this by way of the establishment of the root, the preparation, and the downfall of the preparation of the preparation, the absence of downfall, what should be learned, and what should be rectified. Here, the establishment of the root downfall is that a bhikshu, having abandoned the sending of a messenger from a donor belonging to the human realm who has become a householder, who sends the price of clothing, such as gold and silver, which is not permissible, from a messenger belonging to the human realm who has become a householder, the messenger asks the householder belonging to the human realm, and after the bhikshu has given instructions, the messenger exhorts and speaks. If he is urged more than three times, or sits more than three times, or does not promise to follow the mind of the donor, and takes the clothes, it becomes the root of the downfall of abandonment. If a bhikshu has a downfall of abandonment, if he has not abandoned it and has not separated from it, and has not confessed the downfall, or has abandoned it and has not separated from it, and has not confessed the downfall, or has abandoned it and has separated from it, and has not confessed the downfall, from the donor, the messenger, and the speaker, who belong to the human realm and have become householders, he obtains the price of clothing, such as gold and silver, which is not permissible. If he obtains another such garment, it will also be abandoned by the force of the previous one, but he will not fall into downfall from it. If a bhikshu has a downfall of abandonment, as long as he has not confessed from the object of abandonment, and has not confessed separately, if he places a bowl, a dharma garment, a woven object, a bag, a belt, or any other of the bhikshu's living utensils near it, it will also be abandoned by the force of the previous one, but he will not fall into downfall from it. The establishment of this is that a donor belonging to the human realm who has become a householder sends the price of clothing, such as gold and silver, which is not permissible, from a messenger belonging to the human realm who has become a householder. When the messenger offers what has been sent to the bhikshu, the bhikshu should say, 'Venerable messenger, bhikshus should not take these prices of clothing. If we obtain lawful clothing at the appropriate time, we will take it.' He should abandon it for a while. The messenger should also say to the bhikshu, 'Please, venerable ones, accept the sending.'

Are there any who take advice? One should ask if there are any who belong to the human realm, who have become householders, who give advice to monks. To that, the monk should also point out that this messenger is the advisor of the monks, this is the one who takes the advice of the monks, or point out the monastery manager, or point out the lay devotee who gives advice. Then, that messenger should also take those cloth prices and go to the important advisor, give them and say to that advisor: Venerable advisor, please know! With these cloth prices, buy such and such cloth, and when the monk named so-and-so comes, put the suitable cloth on him in time. Then, that messenger should very well and correctly advise and instruct that advisor. That monk should go to the important place, and after going, say to that monk: I have correctly instructed the advisor indicated by the Noble One, please go to him, and he will put the suitable cloth on you in time. Then, that advisor should also prepare the suitable cloth in time and give it to the monk. For the time being, those patrons, messengers, and advisors will also have great merit arising from generosity, and the monk will not have the fault of contradicting the world and contradicting the discipline, this is a good deed. If the advisor does not do so, then the monk who wants cloth should go to the advisor and say: Venerable advisor, I want cloth! Venerable advisor, I want cloth! He should urge him two or three times. It should be remembered. If he still does not succeed, then he should also sit silently for two or three times. If he still does not succeed, then I should go to the place from which those cloth prices came, or learn from a reliable messenger that the cloth prices sent by the venerable ones for the sake of so-and-so monk have not achieved anything for that monk, please know! Venerable ones.
