Those who do benefit. The so-called "Brahmin" is a pure Brahmin. "Householder" means wealthy. "City dweller" means a person from the city. "Villager" means a person from the village. "Wealthy person" means a person with countless riches. "Merchant" means one who wears a crown. "Helmsman" refers to someone who has reached a consensus after being invited two or three times. "In the hands of a messenger" means in the hands of a man, woman, or hermaphrodite. "The value of clothing" means gold or silver. "Entrusted" means entrusted to someone. Then, that messenger takes the value of those clothes and goes to where that monk is. After arriving, he says to that monk: "Holy one, please know! A king, minister, Brahmin, householder, city dweller, villager, wealthy person, merchant, or a certain helmsman has entrusted these clothes' value to you. Holy one, please accept these for the sake of compassion." The so-called "saying" means that the messenger offers the value of the clothes entrusted by the patron to the monk and speaks those words. That monk says to the messenger: "O messenger with longevity, monks should not accept the value of clothes. If we get suitable clothes in time, then we can accept them." The so-called "saying" means that monks do not accept unpermitted things, and it should be understood that it is acceptable to get suitable clothes in time. The value of clothes refers to unpermitted things like gold and silver. Suitable clothes are those that can be used. "Getting in time" means getting them when clothes can be sewn, when begging is possible, and when giving is possible. "Accepting" means taking possession, and that is what should be said. If that messenger says to the monk: "Holy ones, is there anyone who serves the holy ones, who accepts the service of the holy ones?" The so-called "saying" means that the messenger investigates who is the permitter of the monks. "Serving" and "accepting service" means emphasizing.

These words are summarized into one basis. A monk who desires robes sends a messenger, this person is a attendant for the monks, this is the monks accepting attendance, or assigning a monastery caretaker or a layperson to be an attendant. This refers to a monk doing what is appropriate for the monks. The so-called monk who desires robes means if one strives for robes. The so-called monastery caretaker and layperson acting as attendants are different bases, both of which are acting as attendants and accepting attendance. Among them, the monastery caretaker refers to the person who does appropriate things, such as serving the Sangha. The so-called layperson refers to one who has taken refuge in the Three Jewels and observes the five precepts, belonging to the retinue of the monks. After that, that messenger takes the money for the robes and should go to where the attendant is, and after arriving, say to the attendant: "Venerable one, please know the matter of attendance. With this money for robes, buy this kind of robe, and when the monk named so-and-so comes, put the appropriate robe on him in time." This means that the messenger gives the money for the robes to the attendant, and asks them to turn the money into appropriate robes, and instructs the monk to offer them in time, these are words of instruction and guidance. After that, that messenger very properly instructs and guides the attendant, and then goes to where that monk is, and after arriving, says to the monk: "Venerable one, is the matter of attendance that you indicated peaceful? I have properly instructed, please go to him, and he will put the appropriate robe on you in time." This is using persuasive language, in order to accomplish what has already been made clear before, so it is a word that needs to be understood later. A monk who desires robes goes to the attendant and says: "Venerable one, attendant, I want robes. Venerable one, attendant, I want robes." He should request this two or three times repeatedly. It should be remembered that a monk should not contradict worldly customs and the Vinaya.
