Knowing that it has been given but not returned is called "begging for alms of abandonment," which is similar to the definition of begging for abandonment of "not given" previously stated. Not knowing whether it has been given is the scope of begging for abandonment; knowing that it has been given is the scope here. To illustrate this point, it is said, "That is another." "That" refers to what the offender who gave the clothes does not know. "Another" refers to the non-giving itself. Thus, there is a distinction: knowing that it has been given but not returned is the scope of begging for alms of abandonment; not knowing whether it has been given or not is the scope of begging for abandonment previously stated. Thus, in order to easily understand that the definitions of begging for alms of abandonment and begging for abandonment are generally similar but slightly different, it was first explained. Now, the definition of begging for alms of abandonment itself will be explained extensively. Here, the classification of the root offense is as follows: a monk's clothes are robbed, lost, burned, blown away by the wind, or washed away by water, so he should not beg. If he obtains suitable, appropriately sized, and not small clothes from someone who belongs to humanity, is a householder, has life, and is not a relative, knowing that they have been given but not returned, no matter which aspect of value, color, or size he begs for, if he obtains that, it becomes the root offense of begging for alms of abandonment. If a monk commits the offense of begging for alms of abandonment, without abandoning and separating from it, without confessing the offense, or having abandoned and separated from it, without confessing the offense, or having abandoned and separated from it, without confessing the offense, and then obtains other clothes that are like that, knowing that they have been given but not returned, with the same value, color, and size, then that also becomes abandoned due to the previous force, but he will not commit an offense because of it. If a monk commits the offense of begging for alms of abandonment, as long as he has not confessed and separately confessed from the abandoned object, whether it is a bowl, Dharma robe, mat, bowl, belt, or any other livelihood item of a renunciate, if it is placed nearby, then that also becomes abandoned due to the previous force.

Therefore, it will not become an offense. Regarding value, color, and size, if one asks without informing the need for donation, obtaining the same item does not constitute a fault. Regarding value, color, and size, without making distinctions, if one generally asks without informing the need for donation, obtaining any one of them does not constitute a fault. Knowing that something is suitable, possessing the required size, and exceeding the size, without informing the need for donation, does not constitute a fault. The agent here is also as before, belonging to humans, being a householder, having life, and not being a relative. So, what kind of Bhikshu would be the agent of this offense? It is for situations where it is not appropriate to ask, other than when clothes are robbed, lost, burned, blown away by the wind, or washed away by water. Here, the fundamental offense is constituted by five limbs. A Bhikshu's clothes have not been robbed, lost, burned, blown away by the wind, or washed away by water, and it is not appropriate to ask, and the donor belongs to humans, being a householder, having life, and not being a relative, the clothes are suitable, possessing the required size, not smaller than (required), knowing without informing the need for donation, and regarding value, color, and size, asking in any way without informing the need for donation, and obtaining the same item. If these limbs are not complete, then a fault is constituted accordingly. Among them, mentioning that the Bhikshu's clothes have not been robbed, etc., is because it is not appropriate to ask for these. Mentioning that the donor belongs to humans, being a householder, having life, and not being a relative, is because the opposite would constitute a misdeed. Mentioning that the clothes are suitable, possessing the required size, not smaller than (required), knowing without informing the need for donation, is because (the Buddha) said that if one asks a non-relative for unsuitable, impermissible Dharma robes, knowing without informing the need for donation, it constitutes a misdeed. Mentioning regarding value, color, and size, asking in any way without informing the need for donation, and obtaining the same item, is because (the Buddha) said that obtaining other (items) and not obtaining the same item does not constitute an offense. Even if one obtains a donation of one, two, or many pieces of clothing through one action, only one fundamental offense is established. The offense of the action is a misdeed, until asking for donation.
