Regarding the names and lineages of the six ancestors and their descendants, as well as the siblings of the six outer generations with the branches of the paternal lineage, and the siblings of the six outer generations of the maternal lineage, and the uncles and aunts of the six ancestors and their descendants with the paternal branches of the maternal lineage, the seventh generation is the descendants of the grandchildren and granddaughters, all of whom are considered to be within the great circle of relatives. Having thus explained the characteristics of relatives and non-relatives, in order to show that a Bhikshuni mainly focuses her attention on non-relative objects, therefore, for the object of primary attention, if the truth of the matter is indeed so, then it is the root. If the truth of the matter is not so, then it is close to the root. Thus it is said. When saying "the object of primary attention," if the thought and the fact are completely consistent, that is, the Bhikshuni thinks that the other person is a non-relative, and the Bhikshuni herself is indeed a non-relative, then it is the root, which will lead to downfall. If the fact is not so, that is, the Bhikshuni thinks that the other person is a relative, but in thought she thinks that the other person is a non-relative, then it is close to the root, which will lead to a minor offense. Doubt is similar to thought, if one doubts whether a Bhikshuni is a non-relative, then it is the root; if one doubts whether a Bhikshuni is a relative, then it is a minor offense. Here, through eight branches, it will lead to a fundamental downfall: blessing, one's own, old, suitable for washing, clothing, Bhikshuni non-relative, command, and doing. The previously mentioned "command and doing" and "blessing" are to show that if one does unblessed washing and other actions, it will lead to a minor offense. Here, the scripture says, if a venerable one, a Bhikshu, takes the abandoned Dharma garment to wash, what downfall will it lead to? If it is taken to wash without being abandoned, it will lead to abandonment. However, if it is taken to wash after being abandoned, it will lead to a minor offense. Thus it is said. Mentioning "one's own" is to exclude others. Here, the scripture says, if a venerable one, a Bhikshu...

If a bhikshu asks a non-relative bhikshuni to wash clothes, what offense is committed? An offense of wrong-doing is committed. Saying "old" is to refute the Sarpa. Here, saying "old" means that of the three seasons, whatever has been used in any of the seasons. This should be understood as a symbol. Even if used for a long time, if it is stained by impurities, etc., and is suitable for washing, even if it is not used in season, it will only generate the idea that it should be discarded. Here it says, if a venerable bhikshu enters a village because he can wear a robe, and it occurs to him to abandon that robe without taking it off his body, is there? There is a nearby attendant. For example, if a robe that has entered a house becomes stained with impurities, etc., and if a non-relative bhikshuni is asked to wash it, an offense of abandonment is committed. Saying "suitable for washing" is to indicate that the opposite would be an offense of wrong-doing. Here it says, if a venerable bhikshu asks the sangha's robe to be washed, what offense is committed? If it has become dirty from being used by an individual, then an offense of wrong-doing is committed. Saying "clothes" refers to robes and cushions. This is to indicate that everything that is not these will be an offense of wrong-doing. Here it says, "robes" refers to any of the seven: woolen cloth, Shana cloth, Zarma cloth, Dugula cloth, cotton-wool cloth, Kotamba cloth, and Nio cloth. Saying "non-relative bhikshuni" is to condemn the opposite. Saying "command" is to indicate that commanding, etc., will be an offense of wrong-doing. Here, the meaning of these two is, if a venerable bhikshu commands a non-relative bhikshuni to wash a robe, what offense is committed? An offense of wrong-doing is committed. Saying "done" is to indicate that if a non-relative bhikshuni does not do the washing, etc., an offense of wrong-doing is committed. Here it says, if washing, cooking, pounding, etc., are done, then it is abandoned.
