In the pleasure garden, the Blessed One stayed and resided. Then, the Blessed One gradually traveled and arrived at the bank of the Roha River. There, some monks were washing their hands and feet, some were discarding toothpicks, some were filtering water, and some were bathing. The Shakyas residing in the city of Kapilavastu heard that Prince Siddhartha had arrived, and that King Suddhodana had arranged spacious accommodations in the Nyagrodha pleasure garden. Having heard this, tens of thousands of Shakyas gathered in the Nyagrodha pleasure garden, some driven by the roots of past virtues, and some came out of curiosity, wondering: How did the father first pay homage to the son's feet? Or did the son pay homage to the father's feet? Then the Blessed One thought: If the Tathagata were to go to Kapilavastu on foot, those arrogant Shakyas would not find Prince Siddhartha to be great. Because when I was a Bodhisattva before, countless gods greeted me from the city of Kapilavastu, and I came from the sky. If now I have realized the unsurpassed wisdom, but come on foot, they will give rise to disbelief. Therefore, I should enter Kapilavastu by means of miraculous powers. Having thought and realized this, he said to the monks: Monks, you cross the Roha River with your feet. The Tathagata will go by means of miraculous powers. The monks, having heard the Blessed One's command, said: As the venerable one commands. Then they crossed the Roha River with their feet and went to the Nyagrodha pleasure garden. Then, not long after the Blessed One's community of monks had left, he understood in his heart and entered into samadhi. By means of miraculous powers, he disappeared from the other bank of the Roha River, and like a swan king spreading its wings in the sky, he manifestly rose above the city of Kapilavastu and went to the Nyagrodha pleasure garden.

He was sitting cross-legged in the sky above the Joyful Garden of Nyagrodha. Then, the Blessed One displayed the four modes of conduct to the east, namely, walking, standing, sitting, and lying down. He also manifested the dual miracle, with fire blazing from the lower part of his body and a stream of cold water flowing from the upper part of his body. Fire blazed from the upper part of his body and a stream of cold water flowed from the lower part of his body. He also entered into the fire element concentration. From the body of the Buddha, the Blessed One, who had entered into the fire element concentration, various rays of light appeared, such as blue, yellow, red, white, variegated, and those like the color of crystal and silver. Just as in the east, so also in the south, west, and north. In this way, he displayed four kinds of miraculous manifestations in the four directions. Then, the Blessed One thought to himself: 'If the Tathagata were to touch the feet of King Suddhodana, his head would split into seven pieces. If King Suddhodana were to touch the feet of the Tathagata, the arrogant Shakyas would think, "Why should a father touch the feet of his son?" and thus give rise to disbelief. Therefore, I must somehow ensure that King Suddhodana prostrates to the feet of the Tathagata without bowing down. I must now manifest such a miracle.' Recognizing his thought, he rose into the sky to the height of seven tala trees, and then remained at the height of six, five, four, three, two, and one tala trees. Then, he rose to the height of seven men, and then remained at the height of six, five, four, three, two, and one men. Then, without King Suddhodana bowing down, he bowed his head to the feet of the Tathagata. In order to make the Shakyas understand, at that time he spoke the verses: When you were born, doubts were dispelled, The shadow of the Jambudvipa did not leave your body, This and three times, the all-seeing, wise one,

I prostrate at your vast feet. Then, the Blessed One withdrew the miracles he had manifested and went to the Nyagrodha Garden, where he sat down on the prepared seat in the midst of the community of monks. Then, King Śuddhodana, King Rice-food, King White-food, King Ambrosia-food, and many hundreds of thousands of Śākyas bowed their heads to the feet of the Blessed One and sat down on one side. Some Śākyas, at a distance from the Blessed One, folded their palms and sat down on one side. Some Śākyas, seeing the Blessed One from afar, sat down on one side without saying a word. Then, King Śuddhodana spoke to the Blessed One in verse, exchanging many joyful words, and the Blessed One approved of it. Then, King Śuddhodana thought to himself: My son has realized such a collection of qualities, I have indeed gained a great benefit! Then, the Blessed One understood the thoughts, habits, faculties, and inclinations of the king and the great assembly of people, and on that day, he taught the Dharma to the seventy-seven thousand Śākyas, led by King White-food, so that they saw the truth. On the second day, in the garden where there is growth, he taught the Dharma to the seventy-six thousand Śākyas, led by King Rice-food, so that they saw the truth. On the third day, in the garden of the abode of Brahmā, he taught the Dharma to the seventy-five thousand Śākyas, led by King Ambrosia-food, so that they saw the truth. On the fourth day, King Śuddhodana's mind was very depressed, and the obscurations were very high, but the wheel of Dharma was turned for the gods, and the venerable Maudgalyāyana's son removed these obscurations by showing miracles, and while sitting on that seat, he destroyed the twenty high peaks of the mountain of the view of the perishable aggregates with the vajra of wisdom, and thus manifested the fruit of stream-entry, and thus taught the Dharma. Then, King Śuddhodana saw the truth, and if he were to entrust the kingdom to King White-food, King Rice-food, and King Ambrosia-food, they would have already seen the truth.
