Because of purity, all downfalls and the faults of concealing these offenses will not arise. In any place where concealment does not arise, there the fault of hiding will not arise either. For the individual to whom one should confess, a fully ordained monk abiding in his own nature, with the same view and discipline, residing within the boundary, if there is no discrepancy in name and kind with the offense, then confessing to those Dharma practitioners previously indicated is indeed confession. The arrangement of these is also the same as before. After confessing the offense, the subsequent declaration is also the same as before, and the mantra of confession should be recited. If one cannot recite the mantra of confession completely, even if one only understands the name and kind, it is still considered confession. Here, the name is the category of offense. The kind is the offense that occurred. Thus, if the substance of the offense is confessed, then the intermediate connection and the connection of the connection do not need to be confessed separately. Having confessed in this way, repentance is called arising from the offense of expiation involving forfeiture. Arising from the offense of expiation involving forfeiture refers to a monk with shame, holding the Sutra Pitaka, the Vinaya Pitaka, and the Abhidhamma Pitaka, who, through wisdom, confesses before one monk and is able to rise from the offense of expiation involving forfeiture. There is no need to perform rituals or other actions to separate things from abandonment. Why is that? Because one rises from the offense through intention, not through punitive actions. Here, the text is from scattered parts, starting from the chapter on Sanghavasesa, so for those who naturally have a sense of shame in that way, it is permitted to confess before one person, etc., and from there it should also be known that expiation involving forfeiture is similar to this. Furthermore, from the perspective of summarizing the Vinaya, what is in accordance with what is permissible and contrary to what is impermissible is summarized as permissible. What is contrary to what is permissible and in accordance with what is impermissible is summarized as impermissible. Since it is permissible for Sanghavasesa, it is also evident that it is permissible for expiation involving forfeiture. The ritual and mantra for confessing before one monk follow the scriptural authority spoken by the Buddha himself, and from the oral instructions of early Vinaya holders, there is this saying: that expiation involving forfeiture

If a transgression occurs, it should not be concealed merely with the intention of hiding it. Instead, one should immediately remove one's shoes. Within the boundary, facing a fully ordained monk who is seen as actually present, who shares the same name, but whose transgression differs in name and kind, one should squat down. Joining one's palms together, one should mention the category name of the transgression and the kind that occurred, and confess and repent immediately. The mantra for this is as follows: "Venerable one, please listen. I, a monk named so-and-so, have committed a transgression of such-and-such kind from the category of expiable transgressions. I, a monk named so-and-so, confess this expiable transgression before the venerable one. I do not conceal it, I repent. Having confessed and repented, I will abide in comfort; if I do not confess and repent, I will not." This is repeated three times. The listener should say, "Do you see the transgression?" The confessor should say, "I see it." The listener should say, "Will you restrain yourself in the future?" The confessor should say, "I will restrain myself." This is repeated three times. After that, the listener should say, "This is the method." The confessor should say, "Excellent." By this much, a monk who possesses shame, who upholds the sutras, who upholds the Vinaya, who upholds the Matrika, and who is wise, should know that he has arisen from the root transgression of expiable transgressions. Thus, if the root transgression of expiable transgressions is confessed and repented immediately, then there is no need to separately confess and repent the misdeeds of the action and the subtle misdeeds of the action of the action. For other cases, if an expiable transgression occurs, one should abandon and separate from the object, and then confess the transgression afterwards. The procedure for this is as follows: If a monk commits an expiable transgression, he should first abandon and separate from the object, and then confess the transgression. Here, abandoning first means that one should not have a mind of attachment to the object. Separating first means that the object should be given to a fully ordained monk who is seen as actually present, who shares the same name, but the name of the transgression
