It is divided into what is owned by oneself and what is owned by the Sangha. Among them, for what is owned by the Sangha, the items that belong to an individual will generate abandonment offenses due to holding, separating, and placing. This is because all of these can be possessed as if they belonged to an individual. However, for what is owned by the Sangha, unassigned items, they will not be possessed as if they belonged to others, so everything mentioned before will not occur. If a Sangha-owned, unassigned robe is blessed by someone and separated from that robe, then at that time, only the offense needs to be confessed, and the robe should not be abandoned. Here, the scripture comes from Ananda's question: If a monk blesses a Sangha's robe and then separates it outside the boundary, is the robe considered separated or not separated? The Buddha replied: It is considered separated from the robe. Ananda asked: Does the robe need to be abandoned? The Buddha said: No, only the offense needs to be confessed. Therefore, it is not necessary to separate from the robe. Here, "non-existence is the main thing" means that if the item to be abandoned does not belong to that person and is in a state of non-existence, then the abandonment itself is the main thing, and the item to be abandoned is not the main thing. Therefore, for robes damaged due to fire, etc., only the offense needs to be confessed. Here, the scripture comes from the question: If a monk's abandoned robe is damaged, does he need to confess the offense? Ananda, only the offense needs to be confessed. These three situations do not occur on a solid spread, that is, the three abandonment offenses of holding, separating, and placing, which will be discussed below, do not occur when a monk is on a solid spread. Because on a solid spread, there are ten benefits of promising to stay in retreat. The general explanation of the common characteristics of abandonment offenses is now complete. Now, the circumstances of each abandonment offense will be discussed, starting with the origin of the holding abandonment offense, which is the enactment and permission.

There are two situations because of (robes). The origin of the enactment is that the Buddha Bhagavan was dwelling in Shravasti, in the Jeta Grove of Anathapindika's Garden. At that time, the monks had so many Dharma robes that some monks threw them around in the temple, some monks rubbed them well, some monks smeared the threads with heavy clay, some monks washed their hands and feet, some monks discarded toothpicks, some monks went begging in the city, some monks made noise during meals, some monks attended to the Khenpos and Acharyas, some monks practiced the Guru's teachings, some monks practiced listening to the Dharma during the day, and some monks practiced listening to the Dharma at night. When they wore and used these Dharma robes, things became numerous, and actions became numerous, thereby abandoning upholding, reading, reciting, yoga, attention, and inner calm abiding. Then, (other) monks with few desires scolded, 'Why do the monks have so many Dharma robes, causing such faults?' They criticized and rebuked. At that time, the monks reported this matter to the Bhagavan. Then, the Bhagavan, because of this matter, this origin, and this situation, convened the Sangha of monks, rebuked the monks, scolded them in various ways, and fully saw the ten benefits of enacting the training. Therefore, the basis for the Shravakas' learning in discipline should be recited in the following way: 'If a monk, after possessing Dharma robes, stretches them out on a hard frame, exceeding the amount of three robes, it shall be judged as a Nissaggiya Pacittiya.' Thus, the training was enacted. The location was Shravasti, the people were very many monks, the afflictions were distraction and untamedness, and the fault was the omission of things. The origin of the permission is that the Buddha Bhagavan was dwelling in Rajagriha, in the Bamboo Grove at Kalanda. At that time, the Venerable Mahakashyapa was dwelling in Rajagriha in a solitary hut. When the Bhagawa
