So, what is so special about this? For any object, as long as there is conformity, it applies to that kind of object. For example, what belongs to the ten-day use of clothing only applies to the ten-day use of clothing. What belongs to one month only applies to one month. What belongs to the bowl only applies to the bowl. What belongs to the seven-day use of medicine only applies to the seven-day use of medicine. It is shown here that the conformity inherent in the Dharma robe obtained earlier should be understood to be the same for the Dharma robe obtained later. Therefore, the Dharma robe obtained earlier should be consecrated or discarded together with the Dharma robe obtained later within ten days. Do not count ten days separately for the Dharma robe obtained later, because the influence of the Dharma robe obtained earlier will cause the Dharma robe obtained later to also be affected. The rule here is that if a monk obtains a Dharma robe on one day and then obtains another Dharma robe on the second day, then that monk should first consecrate the earliest one within those ten days, and then discard, allow, or give away the later one. If one does not discard, allow, or give away, then when the dawn of the eleventh day rises, one will commit a relinquishment offense. Regarding the seven-day use, it refers to the same kind. Regarding the seven-day use of medicine, here is another distinction explained: Regarding the seven-day use, it refers to items such as butter and sesame oil, consecrated for seven-day use. The so-called same kind refers to the items obtained later, if they are of the same kind and similar nature as the items obtained earlier, then the conformity inherent in them will apply to them. However, not all such things apply, for example, the conformity of butter only applies to butter obtained later, but not to sesame oil, etc. Similarly, the conformity of sesame oil only applies to sesame oil obtained later,

It is like ghee and so on do not occur. Here, the scripture distinguishes that if a monk obtains ghee on one day and then obtains another on the second day, then that monk should eat the earliest one, and the last one should be discarded, or allowed, or given to others. If he does not discard it, does not allow it, or does not give it to others, when the dawn of the eighth day rises, he will commit a Nissaggiya Pacittiya offense. If it is that offense, merely possessing some belongings requires abandonment, which refers to the fact that the Nissaggiya Pacittiya offense exists but has not been confessed, and later, if any kind of similar or dissimilar belongings are obtained and possessed, it will definitely happen that they must be abandoned, but the offense will not occur. It is taught that for a monk who has a Nissaggiya Pacittiya offense, if he later obtains similar or dissimilar belongings, then, at the time of confession, that monk should also abandon it. Therefore, the offense does not need to be confessed, because the offense does not arise from its basis. Here, the scripture says that if a monk's robe has not been abandoned, has not been separated, and that offense has not been confessed, if he obtains another one, then that should also be abandoned, because of the power of the former, and so on. A small piece will not change, which means that a piece smaller than one cubit in circumference will not become something that must be abandoned. It is taught that whether it is the previous or the later, any item that needs to be abandoned becomes a fragment, it does not need to be abandoned at the time of confession, because it is smaller than one cubit in circumference, and small things should not be abandoned. Here, in the scripture, Ananda asked, "Venerable, if a monk's robe is burned, or eaten by animals and insects, do the remaining fragments need to be abandoned?" Ananda, no, only the Pacittiya offense needs to be confessed. What belongs to the Sangha also, which means that items that have not been divided as belonging to the Sangha do not need to be abandoned. There are two types of items that belong to the Sangha: what belongs to the Sangha and what belongs to an individual.
