Likewise. The Pratimoksha, hearing it, and retaining and remembering it are extremely difficult to obtain, and practicing it is also extremely difficult to obtain. This one verse was spoken. The so-called "aeon" is a distinction of time, namely the great aeon. It is called an aeon because it can rob. The so-called "koti" is a distinction of number, namely the eighth place. The so-called "all" is to show that even with numbers such as kotis, it is difficult to obtain, hence it is a word of plurality. The so-called "Pratimoksha" is the nature of scripture and realization. The so-called "hearing" is hearing the nature of words with ear consciousness. The so-called "retaining" is obtaining it after that, and completely determining the nature of words and the nature of meaning with mind consciousness. The so-called "remembering" is not forgetting the nature of the words and meanings that have been retained. The so-called "difficult to obtain" means that all three of these are extremely difficult to obtain. Just as in the great ocean, the neck of a blind turtle happens to enter the hole of a yoke, it is extremely difficult to obtain the wealth of others and one's own wealth, etc., and even after countless great aeons, it is difficult to obtain them. The so-called "practice" is to truly practice and diligently practice the meaning of the Pratimoksha that has been realized with body, speech, and mind. Moreover, the previous three are also extremely difficult to obtain, because true practice depends on diligence. Therefore, the Pratimoksha should be proclaimed. Listen respectfully! After hearing, one should also practice and diligently practice as the great sage said, this is the concluding word. Thus, this verse shows that because it is difficult to obtain the Pratimoksha from the path of scripture and realization, one should truly practice the Pratimoksha. Hearing, retaining, and remembering are difficult to obtain, and it is difficult to obtain from the path of scripture. Practice is also extremely difficult to obtain, and it is difficult to obtain from the path of realization. From the path of the happiness of the appearance of the Three Jewels, after making the blessing of truly practicing the Pratimoksha. The appearance of the Buddhas is happiness, the teaching of the Dharma is also happiness, the harmony of the Sangha is happiness, the asceticism of those in harmony is happiness. This one verse was spoken.

He spoke a verse, "The arising of Buddhas is happiness." The meaning of "the arising of Buddhas" refers to the time of complete enlightenment, as well as the time of birth in the manner of later arising. "That is happiness" means that it is the cause of obtaining the happiness of liberation, and the result will become happiness. Just as saying "not happy," the arising of Buddhas is happiness. Teaching the Dharma is also happiness. This means that the twelve parts of the scriptures, such as the Sutras, which belong to the sacred word, teaching the Dharma is also the cause of happiness, and the result will become happiness, so it is happiness. The harmony of the Sangha is happiness. This means that the Sangha, which is the nature of the eight types of individuals, is in harmony in terms of discipline, view, conduct, and livelihood, becoming one body and acting in unison, which is also the cause of happiness, and the result will become happiness, so it is happiness. The asceticism of those in harmony is happiness. This means that the asceticism of practicing the three trainings, such as higher discipline, which torments afflictions and committed offenses, is also the cause of happiness, and the result will become happiness, so it is happiness. Thus, this verse shows that the arising of the Three Jewels and their fruit is happiness, so one should diligently guard individual liberation. Relying on a virtuous friend is the gateway to happiness, and with the premise of guarding individual liberation, it is said, "Seeing the noble ones is happiness, associating with the virtuous is happiness." "The noble ones" refers to Arhats and others, who are called noble because they have gone far away from sins. "Seeing is happiness" means that seeing them as virtuous friends will become the cause of happiness. "The virtuous ones" refers to virtuous individuals such as Bodhisattvas among ordinary people, who are called virtuous because they benefit others and are certain. "Associating is happiness" means that living together equally will become the cause of happiness. Thus, this half verse explains that seeing the noble ones and associating with the virtuous are the precursors to the complete happiness of this life and the next.
