The procedure is as follows: If a bhikshu has committed any sanghavasesa offense and has completed the six-day 'pleasing' period, then he should prepare the seat himself, strike the ghanta, and truthfully inform the bhikshus with words of inquiry. When all the sangha have gathered and are in harmony, he should take off his shoes, expose one shoulder, and pay homage to the elders. He should squat at the end of the elders, fold his palms, and recite the mantra for requesting expulsion, as follows: 'Venerable Sangha, please listen. I, Bhikshu So-and-so, have committed a sanghavasesa offense arising from such-and-such. I, Bhikshu So-and-so, come before the Sangha, and for the sake of the sanghavasesa offense arising from such-and-such, I request the Sangha to grant me a six-day 'pleasing' period. The Sangha has granted me, Bhikshu So-and-so, for the sake of the sanghavasesa offense arising from such-and-such, a six-day 'pleasing' period. I, Bhikshu So-and-so, for the sake of the sanghavasesa offense arising from such-and-such, have completed the six-day 'pleasing' period. Now I request the Sangha to expel me. Compassionate Sangha, for the sake of compassion, please allow me, Bhikshu So-and-so, to be expelled from the six-day 'pleasing' period of the sanghavasesa offense arising from such-and-such.' Repeat three times. This is the ritual and mantra for requesting expulsion from the Sangha. The procedure for the Sangha to expel him through petition and four karmas, including rebuke and praise, is as follows: First, one bhikshu petitions. Then rebuke is performed. Then the first, second, and third karma recitations are performed, including the conclusion. Then praise is performed. That is how the expulsion from the sanghavasesa offense is completed. First, the ritual and mantra for one bhikshu to petition is as follows: As soon as he has petitioned for expulsion in this way, one bhikshu should petition immediately. The method is as follows: Sit down and say these words: 'Venerable Sangha, please listen. Ven'

The monk Chharka has committed a Sanghavasesa offense arising from a certain matter. This monk Chharka is present in the Sangha, and for the Sanghavasesa offense arising from a certain matter, he requests the Sangha to grant a six-night penance period. The Sangha therefore grants the monk Chharka a six-night penance period for the Sanghavasesa offense arising from a certain matter. The monk Chharka has performed the six-night penance for the Sanghavasesa offense arising from a certain matter and requests the Sangha to absolve him. If it is the Sangha's time and they agree, may the Sangha permit, and the Sangha will absolve the monk Chharka's six-night penance performed for the Sanghavasesa offense arising from a certain matter. This is the request. This is the initial ritual and mantra for the request made by a single monk. Following that is the ritual and mantra for rebuke, as follows: As soon as that monk has made the request, the monk who committed the offense should immediately be made to lie face down, face up, or sideways on the ground, like a tree that has been cut off at the root and scattered on the ground. After placing him in this way, one should say this: Chharka, listen, you have not done well! Very badly! If it were something else, then do something else! The Dharma of the Bhagavan, the Tathagata, the Arhat, the perfectly enlightened Buddha, is like this: for the sake of detachment from desire, he teaches the Dharma of the liberation of mind and the liberation of wisdom, emptiness, and for the sake of detachment from hatred and desire, and for the sake of detachment from ignorance and desire, he teaches the Dharma of the liberation of mind and the liberation of wisdom. It is not appropriate that you have done such an unseemly thing! Ignorant one, it is better to seize a rapidly spreading black snake venom, a potent poison, a sharp poison, with both hands, but it is not so to seize one's own limbs with a mind full of attachment! Ignorant one, with what hands will you receive what the Brahmins and faithful householders give with faith?
