Without doing anything else, at that very moment, having taken off both shoes, the fully ordained bhikshu naturally abides, and together with those who hold the same view, dwells within the boundary. In front of one who is different from his own name and lineage, he squats down, joins his palms in reverence, and speaks the name of the category of transgression committed and the lineage of what was committed. He should confess. The mantra for that is this: "Venerable ones, please listen." "I, the bhikshu, named so-and-so, have committed a sanghavasesa offense, belonging to the category of so-and-so. I, the bhikshu, named so-and-so, confess this transgression in the presence of the venerable ones. I do not conceal it. Having confessed, I will abide in happiness; if I do not confess, I will not." Repeat this three times. After that, the listener should say, "This is the method." The confessor should say, "Very good." The four sanghavasesa offenses arising from exhortation, even if only a single thought of wanting to conceal arises, should not be concealed, but at that very moment, one must confess to all the sangha members belonging to the boundary of that action. The ritual and mantra for that are: the bhikshu sitting on that seat should say, "Venerable ones, I have committed a sanghavasesa offense." If he is willing to say it, that is good. If he does not say it, then from that day onwards, concealment will arise. It can be understood from what was said. To this, the sangha should exhort in a silent manner, and through supplication and four actions, after the third declaration of the action, together with the conclusion, when it is completed, he should take off both shoes, expose one shoulder to all the sangha members belonging to the boundary of that action, and prostrate to the elders in order. Squatting down next to the elders, joining his palms in reverence, he should say thus: "Venerable ones, please listen. I, the bhikshu, named so-and-so, have committed a sanghavasesa offense, belonging to the category of causing division in the sangha, following the division, destroying families, or causing displeasure. I, the bhikshu, named so-and-so, confess this transgression in the presence of the venerable ones. I do not conceal it. Having confessed, I will abide in happiness; if I do n

Say "It will not change" three times. After that, one of the listeners, an elder, should say, "It is a means." The confessor should say, "Good." The actual confession of a Sanghavasesa offense is this: if there is something concealed, then add the time of concealment into the mantra and confess. If there is nothing concealed, then do the brief confession as before; that alone is the confession. Immediately, if there is no person to whom to confess, there is no fault of concealment until dawn. As long as a person to whom to confess has not been found, even if dawn has broken, there is no fault of concealment for not having confessed. If there is no person to whom to confess, as long as a person to whom to confess has not been found, there is no fault of concealment for not having the intention to confess. Even if there is a person to whom to confess, but due to some reason, one does not have the opportunity to go there, or one has gone from that place to another, until then, there is no fault of concealment for not having the intention to confess. Even if there is a person to whom to confess, but if one thinks that if one goes to him and speaks of the offense, one fears that it will become a fault of concealment, and therefore does not go there, or having gone elsewhere, does not speak, there is also no fault of concealment. In any case, until the conditions are ripe, not going to him, or going elsewhere, or not confessing before dawn, and generating the intention to conceal, these are misdeeds, and are the same as before. For concealment, having doubt about a Sanghavasesa offense is like knowing it. Not knowing the Sanghavasesa offense itself, and not having generated the intention to conceal, due to forgetfulness, and not being able to remember whether one did it or not, what it was like, and not having received full ordination, and having been expelled from the Sangha, concealment does not occur. For a beginner, and a madman, and one whose mind is disturbed, and one who is afflicted by feelings, for these, all offenses, and the fault of concealing them, do not occur. Where concealment does not occur, the practice of swelling and so on also does not occur. The person to whom to confess is a bhikshu, fully ordained, naturally abiding, with the same view and precepts, within the boundary.
