is heavy. The gross offense caused by inhuman conduct and a medium that is impaired in nature is light, while the gross offense caused by human conduct and a medium that is not impaired in nature is heavy. Seeking from land and other objects, being unsuitable, accompanied by disputes, not to be started, not indicated, exceeding the limit, the gross offense of building a house exceeding one of these is light. The gross offense of building a house exceeding two or three or all of these is heavy. Among these, except for the limit, the gross offense of building a monastery exceeding one is light. The gross offense of building a monastery exceeding two or three or all is heavy. The gross offense of falsely accusing without the intention to cause him to fall is light, and the gross offense of falsely accusing with the intention to cause him to fall is heavy. The gross offense of slandering with a slight false word without the intention to cause him to fall is light, and the gross offense of slandering with a slight false word with the intention to cause him to fall is heavy. For the four Sanghadisesas caused by admonition, again humbly preventing them with admonition, the gross offense up to not letting go is light. The gross offense of not letting go when prevented by the first and second karmas is heavy, and so on, should be understood as appropriate. Thus, the rite and mantra for confessing the gross Sanghadisesa offenses are: within the boundary, after a bhikkhu has taken full ordination, naturally abiding, agreeing with the view, differing in name and lineage from the offenses, gathering up to five as many as are present. Taking off both shoes, placing the upper robe on one shoulder, prostrating to the elders, squatting next to the elders, joining the palms and bowing, one should say this: Venerable ones, please listen. I, the bhikkhu named so-and-so, have committed a Sanghadisesa offense, from the category of so-and-so, a gross offense resulting from the action of so-and-so has occurred. I, the bhikkhu named so-and-so, have committed an offense.

Then, confess before the venerable ones. If confessed, I will abide in happiness; if not confessed, I will not. Repeat this three times. One of the listeners, the elder, should say, "Have you seen the transgression?" The confessor should say, "I have seen it." The listener should say, "Will you refrain from now on?" The confessor should say, "I will refrain." Repeat this twice or three times. After that, the listener should say, "It is a means." The confessor should say, "Good." With just that, one arises from the heavy offense of the Sanghavasesa. The confession ritual and mantra for the minor offense of the Sanghavasesa, whether inside or outside the boundary, after taking off shoes, facing a bhikshu who is naturally abiding in full ordination, who is similar in nature but different in transgression, name, and lineage, squatting, joining palms in reverence, one should say this: "Venerable ones, please listen. I, a bhikshu named so-and-so, have committed a Sanghavasesa offense, belonging to such-and-such category, a minor heavy offense resulting from such-and-such action. I, a bhikshu named so-and-so, confess this transgression before the venerable ones. If confessed, I will abide in happiness; if not confessed, I will not." Repeat this three times. The listener should say, "Have you seen the transgression?" The confessor should say, "I have seen it." The listener should say, "Will you refrain from now on?" The confessor should say, "I will refrain." Repeat this twice or three times. After that, the listener should say, "It is a means." The confessor should say, "Good." With just that, one arises from the minor offense of the Sanghavasesa. If one confesses the heavy offense in this way, then the misdeed of that action does not need to be confessed separately. The fundamental purification of the Sanghavasesa is also through the two methods of disclosure and confession, liberating from the root of the Sanghavasesa. Among them, the fundamental disclosure of the Sanghavasesa is: a bhikshu should not conceal faults. Whether any of the first nine Sanghavasesa offenses have occurred, even with just one thought of concealing
