That is good. Because only one offense of practice has been committed, and no serious offense has occurred. If it is not relinquished, it means not relinquishing it completely. If the admonition is not relinquished in that way, one offense is committed in the practice, and in the end, one serious offense will also occur if the admonition is not relinquished. In order to relinquish that matter, one should be properly admonished two or three times, and properly shown. That is, one should be admonished with the request and the four karmas as previously shown. To admonish properly is that, and to show properly is that. Two or three times means doing three karma statements after making one request. To admonish properly is to ask universally. To show properly is to prevent from breaking the Sangha. Two or three times properly admonish, properly show, if you relinquish that matter, that is good, that is good, because the actual offense of Sanghavasesa has not occurred. Previously, committing the preparatory act is one offense. In the end, not relinquishing the admonition is one serious offense. At the end of completing the request, there is also one serious offense. At the end of completing the first karma statement, there is also one serious offense. At the end of completing the second karma statement, there is also one serious offense. If it is not relinquished, it is Sanghavasesa, which means that at the end of completing the third karma statement and the conclusion, one actual Sanghavasesa will occur. Sanghavasesa is the same as before, therefore it is said to be Sanghavasesa. Then how does the offense arise? Here also, the offenses and non-offenses are established by the actual matter, the preparatory act, and the preparatory act of the preparatory act, as well as what should be learned and what should be removed. One should understand the nature of these. Previously, the differences in the Sangha were making, following, breaking the Sangha, and displeasure. One should remember all the common characteristics taught by the last four Sanghavasesas, and here establish the actual offense of Sanghavasesa of breaking the Sangha.

To be explained: What leads to a Saṃghāvaśeṣa offense of causing a schism in the Saṃgha? If, with a perverse intention towards the Saṃgha that is expelling, one falsely says, "He has joined in that way," and does not give it up, it becomes a Saṃghāvaśeṣa offense. The specifics of this are: concerning a Bhikṣu who causes a schism, the one who speaks speaks and gives approval, and having spoken when distinguishing the occasion, then says, "I have seen the downfall," and having performed the act of expulsion, the Bhikṣu who causes a schism, with a perverse intention towards the Saṃgha that is expelling him, due to the power of desire, hatred, delusion, and fear, concerning the Saṃgha, whatever act of expulsion he is undergoing, going with desire and so forth, only a downfall like this, some Bhikṣus are expelled, some Bhikṣus are not expelled, having joined in that way, concerning falsely saying this, the Saṃgha admonishes and instructs, and when preventing it through entreaty and the four acts, if one does not give it up at the end of the third recitation of the act-statement, complete with conclusion, it becomes the actual basis of a Saṃghāvaśeṣa offense. When a Bhikṣu shows the appearance of another being, if there is the perception of a Bhikṣu, there is no offense. Things that are similar, good or bad, there is no offense. When the name is changed, in the realm of common downfall, there is no offense. Having arisen from another being, and relying on the appearance of another being, there is no offense. Having obtained another state, there is no offense. Having established many precepts on one basis, there is no offense. Having doubt about a thing, joining with a thoughtful mind, there is no offense. The realm, whether thought about or not thought about, there is no offense. Doing it for the sake of oneself and others, there is no offense. The agent of this is the one who causes a schism and has performed the act of expulsion. Regarding this, with six limbs, it becomes a downfall of the actual basis: causing a schism, speaking, expelling, falsely saying, with a perverse intention towards the Saṃgha that is expelling him, "He has joined in that way," and preventing it in accordance with the Dharma, and not giving it up at the end of the third recitation of the act-statement. If these limbs are incomplete, there will be an offense as appropriate. The downfall of the action is: when preventing it by admonishing and instructing, if one does not give it up, it is a gross offense.
