Since it is difficult to obtain, what need is there to mention being born in the central region, etc.? Ordination is extremely rare. The term "ordination is extremely rare" refers to the scarcity of desire for virtuous Dharma. What is the desire for virtuous Dharma? It is to hear the Dharma from the Tathagata or his Shravakas, and to gain faith. Having gained faith, one renounces household life and ordains, diligently practicing, thus learning correctly. Since hearing the Dharma and gaining faith are also extremely rare, what need is there to mention ordaining and diligently practicing? Similarly, the Vinaya of the ordained is extremely rare. The term "the Vinaya of the ordained is extremely rare" refers to the scarcity of the discipline of morality, the restraint of the senses, knowing the measure of food, striving to avoid sleeping in the first and last parts of the night, and acting with mindfulness. What is the discipline of morality? There are six aspects: classification, collection, perfection, enumeration, purification, and benefit. Among these, classification has six aspects: abiding in morality, being restrained by the Pratimoksha vows, having perfect conduct, having perfect livelihood, regarding even the slightest faults with fear, and learning by taking up the foundations of training correctly. Collection is collected in three ways: taking up morality correctly, the morality of definite departure, and cultivating morality. Perfection becomes perfect in ten ways: having taken it up well from the very beginning, not being too timid, not being too excessive, being cautious, being completely grasped by diligence, guarding correctly, being completely grasped by not losing conduct, being completely grasped by not losing livelihood, not falling into two extremes, having definite departure, and not completely losing what was taken up correctly. Enumeration has six aspects: in some places, morality is said to be the root meaning, in some places it is an ornament, in some places it is an anointing, in some places it is an increase, in some places it is excellent conduct, and in some places it is the sound of discipline. Purification has

The third is that in order to purify the vows of morality completely, one must separately examine the actions of the body, separately examine the actions of speech, and separately examine the actions of the mind. The benefits are the ten benefits of morality: to obtain the Dharma that leads to supreme joy gradually without regret; to die without regret; to have a good reputation spread in the ten directions; to fall asleep peacefully and wake up peacefully; to be protected by the gods when falling asleep; to be free from the sinful habits of others; to be without fear and panic; even if enemies find an opportunity, they can be protected by the power of pure morality, etc., thus bringing benefits; even if yakshas and non-humans, etc., who are inherently evil, find an opportunity, they can be protected by the power of pure morality, etc., thus bringing benefits; teaching the Dharma to others, etc., can be easily and quickly accomplished through the Dharma; all wishes, such as wanting to be reborn in a certain place, can be truly fulfilled. What is the restraint of the senses? It is relying on the vows of morality, constantly guarding mindfulness, constantly striving in mindfulness, guarding the mind with mindfulness, and keeping the mind in a state of equanimity. Even when distinguishing between forms, sounds, smells, tastes, touches, and dharmas with the eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body, and mind, one does not cling to characteristics or signs. In order to prevent unwholesome and evil dharmas from flowing out from the root of the mind, one strives to practice, protects the senses, and the senses also practice restraint, thus closing the doors of the senses. What is knowing the right amount of food? It is that after guarding the senses in this way, one eats food after careful consideration, not for the sake of greed for deliciousness, not for the sake of getting full, not for the sake of showing off, not for the sake of decoration, but for the sake of maintaining the existence of the body, for the sake of maintaining life, and for the sake of eliminating hunger.
