Because it can subdue. Therefore, this shows that it is the cause of truly subduing the difficult to tame. In this way, these three verses each show that if one is devoted to the Pratimoksha, one will obtain such a result in this life, thereby explaining the greatness of the Pratimoksha in terms of the result of this life. In order to explain the greatness of the Pratimoksha in terms of the result of the next life, two verses were spoken, such as "In the cycle of existence deeper than the ocean, this is the bridge of deliverance, this is the way to the good realms, it is the certain water bridge." The so-called "cycle of existence deeper than the ocean" refers to the world of the five paths of existence, which is deeper than the poisonous ocean and extremely difficult to reach the bottom. The so-called "bridge of deliverance from the cycle of existence" refers to the path of liberation, such as bridges, boats, rafts, and swimming. This is also the Pratimoksha, because if the discipline is pure, the path will arise. This shows that it is the means of deliverance from the cycle of existence and obtaining a certain good path. The so-called "this is" refers to the Pratimoksha. The so-called "good realms" refers to the good path, the heavens, that is, the realms of gods and humans. The so-called "going to" means entering and obtaining. The so-called "certain" means that the teaching is firm and unwavering. The so-called "water bridge" means that it can both block water and become a bridge that is often walked on, because it can both block the water of the lower realms and become a bridge to the good realms. This is the Pratimoksha, because discipline is the cause of the good realms. This shows that it is the means of deliverance from the lower realms and obtaining higher rebirth. The so-called "This is the path that defeats afflictions, it is the excellent guide of the king, this is the entrance to the city of liberation, it stands like the foundation of a staircase," etc. The so-called "this is" refers to the Pratimoksha. The so-called "afflictions" refers to afflictions such as desire and anger. The so-called "defeating" means abandoning. What is that? It is the path, that is, the Noble Eightfold Path. The so-called "king" means that the path itself that defeats afflictions is like a king, so it is called a king.

It is "earth," because it defeats the enemy of afflictions. The so-called "supreme guide" is like the heart of a king, because it guides one to enter the noble path. Therefore, it shows that it abandons the cause of samsara—afflictions, and guides one to enter the cause of nirvana—the noble path. The so-called "this" refers to individual liberation. The so-called "liberation" refers to nirvana. The so-called "city" means that liberation itself is like a city, because it is free from all harm. The so-called "entering" means walking. The so-called "ladder base" refers to the foundation of a ladder. This individual liberation abides like a ladder base, because the basis of the path is discipline. Therefore, it shows that the cause of obtaining the fruit of nirvana is the basis of the noble path. Thus, these two verses show that if one diligently practices individual liberation, one will obtain such a result in the next life, thereby explaining the greatness of individual liberation through the fruit of the next life. By praising individual liberation as being like a teacher, in order to explain the greatness of individual liberation, it is now said: Now that you have entered into peace, this is your teacher, the self-born one with reverence, diligently praises before the assembly of monks. One verse was spoken. The so-called "now" refers to the Bhagavan himself. The so-called "entered into peace" means entering into the realm of nirvana without remainder of aggregates. The so-called "this" refers to individual liberation. The so-called "your" refers to the Shravaka monks. The so-called "teacher" means like a teacher. The so-called "self-born" refers to the Bhagavan, because he attained unsurpassed wisdom without being taught by others. The so-called "with" means with his own face. The so-called "reverence" means with focus. The so-called "diligently" means solemnly. The so-called "monk" refers to a monk who has taken full ordination through solicitation and four karmas. The so-called "assembly" refers to many gathered together. The so-called "before" means manifest. The so-called "praises" means like a teacher. Therefore, the teacher, the Bhagavan, completely

When the Blessed One passed into nirvana, in order to dispel the monks' concern that "from now on we will have no teacher," the Blessed One said: After I have completely passed into nirvana, this Pratimoksha will become your teacher. The Blessed One praised the Pratimoksha as being like a teacher, and thus explained the greatness of the Pratimoksha. Because the accumulation of the path of accumulation is rare, in order to make the path of accumulation have fruit, it is said: "The name of the Buddha is extremely rare in the world; it is extremely difficult to obtain a human body, and it is also very difficult to be ordained." Thus, two verses were spoken. The path of accumulation is the accumulation of the path of application and the path of purification, and the thirteen paths that are the basis, namely: other's perfection, self's perfection, desire for virtue, keeping the precepts, guarding the senses, knowing the measure of food, not sleeping in the upper and lower parts of the night, striving after application, acting with mindfulness, virtuous friends, listening to and thinking about the Dharma, being without obstacles, giving, and the adornment of a monk. Among them, "The name of the Buddha is extremely rare in the world" shows the rarity of other's perfection. What is other's perfection? There are five kinds: the appearance of the Buddhas, the teaching of the Dharma, the abiding of the taught Dharma, the following of the abiding Dharma, and compassion for others. Therefore, even the name of the Buddha is extremely rare in the world, let alone the appearance of the Buddhas? If the appearance of the Buddhas is rare, let alone the teaching of the Dharma, etc.? This explains this principle. The phrase "It is extremely difficult to obtain a human body" shows the rarity of self's perfection. What is self's perfection? There are also five kinds: obtaining a human body, being born in the central land, having complete senses, having faith in the place, and not having committed the five heinous crimes. Therefore, merely obtaining a human body is extremely
