Katiśya and Gyatso Jin four people live separately. The second is that Devadatta took the precepts of the illegal side, stood in front of the illegal side, and said: Venerable ones, the Shramana Gautama eats meat, we should not eat meat. Why? Because that would kill sentient beings. The Shramana Gautama drinks milk, we should not drink it. Why? Because that would harm the calves. The Shramana Gautama eats salt, we should not eat it. Why? Because it is transformed from semen. The Shramana Gautama wears sewn clothes, we should not wear them. Why? Because that would waste the offerings of the believers. The Shramana Gautama lives in the temple, we should live in the village. Why? Because that would make the offerings of the believers not fully utilized. Venerable ones, whoever among you wants to obtain purity, liberation, and detachment through these five ascetic practices, and abide by them well, take up the precepts. Then Devadatta's friends, the monks Kukalika, Khandazaba, Katamorakatisya and Gyatso Jin and others took up the illegal precepts and split the Sangha. According to Dharma nature, the Sangha split by the Tathagata can still be reunited before the sun's rays rise, but once the sun's rays rise, it is impossible to reunite. Therefore, when they began to act in order to split the Sangha on a large scale, the monks reported to the Blessed One. Then, the Blessed One, in response to this matter, this topic, and this situation, convened the Sangha of monks, rebuked Devadatta, and fully saw the ten benefits of establishing precepts, so my Shravaka disciples should recite and study the basis of precepts in this way: If there is a monk who starts to act in order to split the Sangha, and will create division.

If a bhikkhu, having rightly undertaken and grasped a quarrel leading to dissension, remains (in that state), the bhikkhus should say to that bhikkhu: 'Venerable one, do not be stubborn for the sake of dividing the united Sangha. Do not remain having rightly undertaken and grasped a quarrel that will lead to dissension. Venerable one, be in harmony with the Sangha. The Sangha, being united, undivided, rejoicing together, not disputing, becoming like water and milk intermingled, will abide in comfort, making the Teacher's teaching clear.' Venerable ones, you should be exhorted to abandon such a basis for dividing the Sangha. The bhikkhus should exhort that bhikkhu in this way. When the bhikkhus exhort him in this way, if he abandons that basis, that is good; if he does not abandon it, he should be rightly exhorted and taught a second and a third time for the sake of abandoning that basis. If, after being rightly exhorted and taught a second and a third time, he abandons that basis, that is good; if he does not abandon it, a Sanghādisesa offense is constituted. The location was Rājagṛha (King's Abode). The person was Devadatta (God-given). The defilement was the desire for gain and honor. The offense was causing a schism in the Sangha. In this context, "bhikkhu" refers to Devadatta or anyone like him. "Sangha" refers to the Sangha of the Buddha's disciples. "United" means having the same taste and the same actions, because they have entered the same path. "For the sake of division" means for the sake of dividing, for the sake of splitting into two factions. Furthermore, there is seeking another teacher and seeking another path. Seeking another teacher means turning from the Blessed One (Bhagavat) to the side of Devadatta. Seeking another path means turning from the Noble Eightfold Path to the five ascetic practices of Devadatta: not eating meat, not drinking milk, not eating salt, not wearing sewn clothes, and rightly accepting to live in villages. "Being stubborn" means beginning to do so. "If, having rightly undertaken and grasped a quarrel that will lead to dissension, he remains" refers to Kokālika, Khaṇḍadāyaka, Kaṭamorakatiṣya.

, and after the ocean has given it, properly take it and dwell on it with attachment. Causing division means causing division by two causes: association and enjoyment. How through association? Like Kokalika and others. How through enjoyment? Like Ajatashatru and others preparing food in five hundred vessels to offer to the monks. Dispute means the root of conflict. Properly taken means focusing on that. Dwelling with attachment means dwelling with firm attachment. To the monk, it means because he saw a sign, or any other similar situation. The monks mean these Dharma holders. Saying this means exhorting according to the teachings previously shown. Venerable, do not strive to divide the harmony of the Sangha, which means do not strive. Having properly taken up the dispute that will cause division, do not dwell with attachment, which means do not focus on it and dwell with firm attachment. Venerable, please be in harmony with the Sangha, which means be in harmony in discipline, in view, in livelihood, and in conduct. The Sangha is in harmony and does not split, everyone rejoices and does not argue, the supreme is one and the recitation is the same, in which, harmony means the same action, because entering the same path. Not splitting means fusion, without separation. Everyone rejoices means rejoicing by praising each other's qualities. Not arguing means that no argument has occurred. Supreme one means the fruit is one, referring to Nirvana, because it has the supreme one fruit. Recitation is the same means consistent with the Uposatha. Becoming like water and milk mixed together is a metaphor for harmony, because it is consistent in actions such as rebuke. If you want to promote the teachings of the Teacher, the Teacher refers to Bhagavan. The teachings are the three pitakas, subduing desire, hatred, and ignorance. Promoting means the scriptures.
