Fully grasping and subsequently attaching terms. This monk speaks consciously, not unconsciously. Whatever this monk likes and tolerates, we also like and tolerate. When they said this, the monks extensively pleaded with the Blessed One, and the Blessed One said: Monks, you should first admonish those people and anyone else like them. You should admonish them thus: Venerable Kokalika, Khandadhravya, Katamorakatishya, Sea-given, you consciously use disputes as a pretext to slander and create division for the sake of dividing the harmony of the Sangha, do not befriend that person, and do not follow those who speak disharmoniously. Say this to the monks: Venerable ones, whether good or bad, do not say anything to this monk. Why is that? Venerable ones, this monk is a speaker of the Dharma and a holder of the Vinaya. This monk has correctly understood and fully grasped the Dharma and Vinaya, and subsequently attaches terms. This monk speaks consciously, not unconsciously. Do not say that whatever this monk likes and tolerates, we also like and tolerate. Why is that? Venerable ones, this monk is not a speaker of the Dharma, nor a holder of the Vinaya. Venerable ones, this monk is a speaker of what is not Dharma, and not a holder of the Vinaya. This monk has wrongly understood and fully grasped what is not Dharma and not Vinaya, and subsequently attaches terms. This monk speaks unconsciously, not consciously. Venerable ones, do not like and tolerate what this monk likes and tolerates. Venerable ones, do not desire to divide the Sangha, Venerable ones, you should desire the harmony of the Sangha. Venerable ones, be in harmony with the Sangha. The Sangha is harmonious and undivided, everywhere joyful, without disputes, with one opinion, one voice, like water and milk mixed together.

, if the Buddha's teachings can be made clear, one will abide in happiness. Those who are endowed with life should be admonished: "Abandon this kind of person who follows the division of the Sangha and speaks discordantly." The monks, having heard the teachings of the Blessed One, should act as the venerable one has said. The four monks who help to create division and follow discordant speech, namely: Kokalika, Khandadravya, Katamorakatishya, and Ocean-given, should first be admonished with exhortation. The monks admonished those monks, but they still stubbornly held to their own views, clinging to the belief that: "Only this is true, the others are false." When they made such false comments, the monks reported to the Blessed One, and the Blessed One instructed: "Monks, you should admonish Kokalika, Khandadravya, Katamorakatishya, and Ocean-given, and others like them, with exhortation and the four karmas." This is how to admonish: After arranging the seats, strike the ghanta, and with words of inquiry, truly admonish the monks, so that all the Sangha gathers and lives in harmony, and then one monk should request and perform the karma. This is how it should be done, sit down and say these words: "Venerable Sangha, please listen, these people, Kokalika, Khandadravya, Katamorakatishya, and Ocean-given, are acting cunningly to divide the harmony of the Sangha, initiating and insisting on disputes that lead to division, helping to create division, and speaking discordantly. These people have already been admonished by the monks, but they still stubbornly hold to their own views, clinging to the belief that: "Only this is true, the others are false." When they make such false comments, if the Sangha deems it timely and tolerable, then please allow the Sangha. The Sangha should admonish the monks Kokalika, Khandadravya, Katamorakatishya, and Ocean-given: "Venerable ones, you knowingly commit,

Whoever acts hypocritically in order to divide the harmony of the Sangha, and having correctly taken up and completely grasped the dispute that will cause strife, do not follow those who abide therein and speak of discord! Say this to the monks: "Venerable ones, whether you are good or bad, do not say anything to this monk. Why is that? Venerable ones, this monk is a speaker of the Dharma, a speaker of the Vinaya.
