said: This is abandonment to the Sangha. Robes and mats are abandoned to those who have taken full ordination. Copper and other items are acceptable whether one is fully ordained, not fully ordained, ordained, or not ordained. Seven-day medicine is abandoned to those who are not fully ordained. If one angrily snatches a robe, one should abandon only the one who snatches it, because it is for giving, not for allowing. One should abandon to a clear person who is attached, but not to one who is unclear or unattached. If one abandons to an unclear person, if he is unclear and does not return it, it should be taken back by force. What is to be abandoned is abandoned for the sake of being allowed, not for permanent giving. Likewise, abandonment with a mind of expectation is not abandonment. The thirty abandonments are complete. The eighth volume of the Compendium of Vinaya. In Rajagriha (王舍城), if asked of Rahula (罗睺罗), in order to avoid conflict, if the Tathagata (如来) is dwelling elsewhere, then indicate elsewhere, and if in Shravasti (舍卫城), then the opponents who came from the southern road by the lineage of monks, and because of being falsely deceived by death, therefore, making the basis of downfall, for the sake of concealing afflictions, the first downfall of the assembly of false speech was established. The term "knowingly" is synonymous with "hiding gathered knowledge." The term "lying" means that in order to deceive a person who knows about other things, speaking about other things is lying. This also has nine to two aspects, of which nine are the five downfalls and four losses. Eight are the five downfalls and three groundless things. Seven are the four losses and three groundless things. Six are the preparation, the main part, and the conclusion, i.e., three thoughts of intending to lie and three groundless things. Five are the five downfalls. Four are the four losses. Three are the three groundless things. Again, there are three aspects: wanting to lie, thinking "I will lie," and speaking thus, and having spoken thus. Two aspects are two thoughts of intending to lie, namely speaking and having spoken.

There is no single instance where false speech is not a fault. There are five categories of downfalls: Among them, claiming to have attained superhuman qualities leads to defeat; slander leads to a remnant of the community; in the community, declaring what is not Dharma as Dharma leads to a gross offense; concealing one's faults during the recitation of the Pratimoksha leads to a minor offense; and all other false speech besides the four cases mentioned above leads to a downfall. The term "downfall" means that it causes one to fall into the burning hells, boiling hells, and evil realms, hence it is called a downfall. From the perspective of definitive meaning, the sound of downfall indicates the definitive meaning of the word. Burning and boiling mean that they explain the meaning of the sound of the word "downfall." Other downfalls also cause one to fall, but like the name "cow," it is expressed by the sound of the name, and there is no fault in seizing nearby objects. In terms of action, although all are considered downfalls, as mentioned before, there is no fault. If one says "seen" to what has not been seen, each word becomes a downfall. Similarly, whether forgotten or not forgotten, speaking in reverse; whether doubting or not doubting; whether not seen, but saying "seen," and so on; whether seen, but saying "not seen," and so on; concealing cognition and speaking in reverse according to one's own thoughts; or reversing the four cases of seeing, etc., with each other. Similarly, forgetting one but not forgetting another; doubting one but not doubting another. Speaking in such an alternating manner, each word becomes a downfall. Generating (evil) thoughts leads to an offense to be abandoned. Until the other person understands, it is an offense to be confessed. Lying without communicating well with the other person leads to a minor offense. Some say that if something that should be expressed in words is expressed through the body, it also leads to a downfall.

It is said thus. If one sees clearly but says they did not see, it is a downfall. If one doubts what they saw and says they saw, it is a downfall. If one says they did not see, it is a misdeed. If one mistakes what they did not see for having seen it and says they saw it, there is no downfall. If one doubts what they did not see and says they did not see, or even just says 'did not see,' it is a misdeed. Therefore, in this case, downfall only occurs due to a difference in perception; whether the thing itself is as it seems or not is irrelevant. If one disguises oneself as a householder or a heretic, and is asked, 'Are you a householder or a heretic?' and replies, 'I am a householder or a heretic,' it is a downfall. Transforming into the guise of a householder or another heretic is a misdeed. Transforming into the guise of a wandering ascetic results in a serious offense. Even having done so, it does not constitute renouncing the precepts. Similarly, saying to a Brahmin or other ordained person, 'You are a guide,' and so forth. Similarly, with artisans and so on. If the Sangha says to someone whose precepts have not been broken, 'You have broken your precepts,' and so on. If the preceptor is someone else and another is indicated, the precepts are not considered renounced. Saying to someone who is not indebted, 'You owe me a debt,' and so on. Or saying 'You have renounced the precepts,' and so on. Or saying 'You are not of age,' and so on. Or saying 'The precepts have been given,' and so on. If a monk is asked, 'Who are you?' and so on. Or saying 'I am a nun or a deva,' and so on. For novices and so on,
