The so-called "earth" is the form of wisdom, neither too narrow nor too broad. It is not too narrow in order to completely avoid the extreme of indulging in self-mortification. It is not too broad in order to completely avoid the extreme of indulging in desires and decadence. Or, it is in accordance with the actions of fools, etc., so it is in accordance. The so-called "hundred nails" is because those who go beyond it will regret and be uneasy in many ways in this visible Dharma. The so-called "sharp" means cutting off the faults that may occur in the next life; in this way, it itself is weakened. This also shows not to be attached to views. Due to the benefit of correct understanding, it is said "those who do not go beyond," etc., that is, not to make it go beyond. The so-called "boundary" refers to discipline. The so-called "stopping with words only" is not with sticks and weapons. The so-called "great" refers to those who want to learn. The so-called "that language is a good horse" refers to those who are intelligent. The so-called "battlefield of afflictions" refers to fighting with afflictions. The so-called "surely transcend transformation" refers to the time of the Arhat state. Due to the fault of incorrect understanding, it is said "who does not have this," etc., that is, the heretics and those who enjoy desires. The so-called "unwilling" refers to those whose nature does not transcend complete nirvana. The so-called "disturbed by the battlefield of afflictions" means having been defeated on the battlefield of afflictions. The so-called "separation from dwelling" means having completely abandoned the Pratimoksha vows. The so-called "will wander around" means wandering in various ways in the cycle of the five realms. Due to the sake of correct instruction, it is said "please listen," etc., which is a term for making others listen from other minds. The so-called "please listen" means to make them respectful. The so-called "Sangha" refers to the five types of Sangha: a gathering of four, a gathering of five, a gathering of ten, a gathering of twenty, and a gathering of more than twenty. Among them, a gathering of four can perform acts of rebuke, expulsion, and all karmas except for bestowing full ordination. A gathering of five can perform...

Ordination and expulsion are excluded. In border areas, ordination can also be performed. With ten gathered, expulsion is excluded. With twenty gathered, and with more than twenty gathered, all actions can be performed. The so-called fourteenth day is to know the time of the Uposatha. Among them, the third half-month and the seventh half-month of winter, post-winter, and summer are the fourteenth Uposatha. Other than that is the fifteenth. In a year, there are six fourteenth Uposathas and eighteen fifteenth Uposathas. One should fully know the Uposatha day, and in order to conform to worldly speech, announce to the Sangha, "Today is the this day of the half-month," and for the patrons of the monastery and the deities of the monastery, recite each verse. The sun, moon, and stars should be in accordance with the king. The so-called "time has come" refers to the time of the Uposatha. The so-called "patience" refers to reciting the Uposatha matters to be done in that assembly. The so-called "please allow" refers to the Sangha asking to allow me to recite. The so-called "this is the request" refers to showing the end for all the Sangha to know. Why doesn't everyone recite? One should not recite everything, because not everyone agrees, and it is not suitable to be in the form of listening to the Dharma. If each recites separately in their own place, then there will also be the fault of not having done the Uposatha, and the fault of not having heard the true Dharma. There will also be the faults of being careless and taking a long time. In a place where there are monks, because the precepts have been given, one should not recite the Pratimoksha Sutra. The so-called "Venerables, we have done the Uposatha," etc., why is it called Uposatha? What is its action like? Because it nourishes virtuous Dharma in the mind, it is Uposatha. Wherever at least four people gather, those who agree should recite the Pratimoksha Sutra, and that is the action of the Uposatha. Wherever a monk is sick, one should not take the intention. In any direction, wherever the stupa is not protected, and is too similar to the world, and is an unclean place, and there is doubt, if one performs the Uposatha, one commits a wrong deed.
