I want to lead them. If I am careless and forget to lead, I will commit the sin of being bound. This is the seventh Saṃghāvaśeṣa. In Rājagṛha, a friend and Sālasaṃjñaka had lifelong enmity with Ghaṭabudhana, so the bhikkhunī friend spoke of the bhikkhu Ghaṭabudhana being defeated. Offering her own four greatnesses as the basis for practicing like Brahmā, it became the eighth due to unbearable afflictions. Called an angry person, it means one who has not abandoned anger. Being angry means being completely entangled by anger. Having become means thinking of harming others. Without basis means that the basis is of three kinds: seen, heard, and suspected. The absence of these is without basis. Slander means to impose slander. That dispute is also without basis, meaning that if it were with basis, it would not become a Saṃghāvaśeṣa. Dispute means that here it refers to the dispute of falling. The bhikkhu also abiding in anger means that it is not such a perception. If the perception is such, it will not be said to have spoken in anger. Then, how does the falling occur? There are four kinds of people: the pure, and those who have a basis like the impure for the pure, the impure, and those who have a basis like the pure from the impure. If slander is imposed on the first two, one will fall due to forty, that is, for those unseen, unheard, and unsuspected, but saying that there are perceptions of unseen etc., saying seen etc., word for word is a Saṃghāvaśeṣa. These are three bases. Having heard but forgotten, and suspected but forgotten, and knowing that one has forgotten but saying that one has not forgotten, these are two. Believing what is heard, and not believing what is heard but saying that one has seen, these are two bases. Suspecting what is heard, and not suspecting what is heard, similarly, saying that one has seen what is suspected, word for word is the real basis, these are three bases. There are five bases for which there is no falling, that is, for those unseen, unheard, and unsuspected, but perceiving that one has not seen etc., saying in order that one has not seen etc., therefore there is no falling. These are three bases.

O! Forgetting after hearing, speaking out of doubt, but considering it unsaid, saying "unsaid" these are two cases. Furthermore, if two people are slandered, one will fall due to forty-one (situations). What does not lead to falling are six cases. The so-called "forgetting after seeing" will be discussed after the fourth. The rest are the same. For the first two people, because there is no falling, there is no seeing. Some say that even without speaking, one will fall, for example, speaking to the four great (monks), because of anger not speaking, but expressing that meaning. Through letters and handwritten documents, through arithmetic, through messengers, through transmission from one to another, through others indicating, writing on paper and saying "from this letter such words will arise," for madmen and so on, for fools and so on, disturbed by sleep, entering into samadhi, having previously fallen and so on, giving teachings, slandering a bhikkhuni, saying in the sangha that it has become a defeat, but not mentioning the person's name, slandering but thinking it is not slander, or hesitating, for example, angrily saying, "You in such a place have illicit relations with so-and-so, engaging in impure conduct, what should I say?" Or thinking it is not slander but having the idea of slander, or hesitating, for example, angrily saying, "You practice brahmacharya, you have not completely fallen from the status of a bhikkhu." Or, if it is a hermaphrodite, or to a hermaphrodite, or a hermaphrodite likes, slandering together, then all are grave offenses. For bhikkhunis and so on, it is a misdeed. For bhikkhunis it is a root offense. Some say that for bhikkhunis and so on, it is a grave offense. If a bhikkhu slanders an unpardonable offense with impure things, then all of those will become bhikkhunis, so it is a root offense. Similarly, because of the falling of a grave offense, if it is a bhikkhuni, saying it is a sanghavasesa offense. Bhikkhunis will also fall like bhikkhus. For novices and so on, all are misdeeds. If a layperson slanders, the matter of petition.
