The chapter on land. If there are monks, the property of a monk is not divided with nuns. If there are nuns, their property is not divided with monks. If someone dies between boundaries, those residing within the boundary towards which the head is facing have the right to it. If facing both ways, both have the right. If gains are given in common to ten or more, and a monk dies there without it being divided, then it belongs to that community itself. If it has been divided, then all the Sangha has the right. The property of those who have been expelled from a dwelling or those who naturally reside there, after their death, belongs to those who naturally reside there. If there are none, it belongs to those who have been expelled. There, whoever relinquished their view first has the right. In a place of commitment, if a monk who has not made a commitment, or a novice, or a shaven person divides the gains of the deceased with those who have made a commitment, it is not considered a division. If it is dedicated to the Sangha of the four directions, then it is a well-dedicated offering. In a place of non-commitment, the same should be said of those who have made a commitment. The five bases established by Devadatta, commitment is called commitment. A monk or a householder who is attending to the sick, or anyone else who is staying temporarily, if they go outside the boundary for that purpose, then like this: the six requisites, namely the three robes, the bowl, the water strainer, and the mat, should be given from the middle ones. If a monk says, "If I die, this belongs to so-and-so," that is not considered giving, because it is property after death, so it should be divided. A householder giving like that is considered giving, because a householder dies with attachment. An ordained person is without attachment. The corpse of the deceased should be taken out and offered, and after teaching the Dharma, the property of the deceased should be divided. Otherwise, it is a transgression. It is blessed by the power of being similar to things. Wherever someone's property is placed, that is called being similar to things. If the property of a deceased hand master is mixed up, it should be divided among the Three Jewels. If one is outside the boundary but thinks they are inside the boundary, or if one divides while being in doubt, it becomes a serious offense. Afterwards, it should be divided together with those who have come inside the boundary. If two people send gifts, but they have not been sent, and both die, the property of the deceased should be blessed to whomever it was sent. Others come.
