It is a gross offense. When taking what is desired, take the item as it is. If stealing together with the container, it is a gross offense. When the container is separated from the item, it is a fundamental offense. For the hooks of Dharma robes, etc., it should also be explained in this way. For things entrusted by others, if taken with a stealing mind, take the item as it is. If one thinks, "This is his, not mine," there is no downfall. Stealing for others without being entrusted is a gross offense. If one is doubtful, thinking, "Is this his or not?" and steals, it is a gross offense. Preparing to receive the Bhikshu vows, and stealing when receiving the Bhikshu vows, is a gross offense. If it is the reverse, it is also a gross offense. The third is a Dukkaṭa offense. The fourth is a fundamental offense. Similarly, when causing one to receive the Bhikshu vows, there are also four situations: taking for the sake of receiving the Bhikshu vows, and moving from the dwelling when receiving the Bhikshu vows, it is a gross offense. Similarly, if it is the reverse, it is also so. The third is a Dukkaṭa offense. The fourth is a fundamental offense. One falls through five kinds of stealing, namely: stealing by force, stealing after discarding, stealing after hiding, stealing by deception, and stealing by giving away later. Sixth, there is no downfall for stealing the Dharma. Picking fruits from a tree and stealing, if it reaches the amount of one act, there will be a downfall. The eastern Purvavideha and the western Aparagodaniya also cause a downfall with the kārṣāpaṇa of that land. In the northern Uttarakuru, because there is no complete possession, there is no act of taking what is not given. During preparation, if there is a thought of stealing, it is a gross offense. There is no downfall with one's own thought. With a stealing mind, it is a fundamental offense. The reverse is a gross offense. Picking up grains from a pile of rice and stealing, if it reaches the amount of a fundamental offense of one act, there will be a downfall. Stealing the property of many people, the standard is the share that one person should receive. Even if the kārṣāpaṇa is made of iron, if it is a precious item, it is a fundamental offense. If stealing is done with the preparation of four māṣakas, even if one steals a thousand kārṣāpaṇas, it will not constitute a fundamental offense. There are many gross offenses. Taking with a stealing mind and using with one's own thought is a gross offense. The reverse is a fundamental offense. Burying gems, etc., underground, if digging and stealing, it is a gross offense. All of these should be fully explained.
