It is the direct taming, and because of who takes many branches. There are three kinds of people: those who give meaning, those who give meaning again, and those who abide in tranquility. Among them, if the one who gives meaning can deeply contemplate the sixteen kinds of meanings, then they should be upheld, namely: truth, time, measure, meaningfulness, seeing, hearing, doubt, body, speech, village, solitary place, night, what is done during the day, without remaining residue, and being able to exhort. There are five kinds of words that should not be upheld, namely: the meaning has been determined, the words passed from one to another, grasping the meaning from the words of those who have not fully completed their ordination, and the words of those who do not know the Sutras and places. The five reversed ones should be upheld. The one who gives meaning again should also deeply contemplate these sixteen kinds of meanings and similar meanings, and distinguish them. Is this person virtuous? Is he regretful? Is he learned? Is he well-versed in taming? Does he speak from what he has seen? And so on, the twelve are the same as before. There are five kinds of words that should not be upheld, namely: not showing the teachings that connect, moving from one place to another, showing that admitting to falling into sin based on one side is also not permissible, slandering the monks, and being disrespectful. The reversed ones should be upheld. The one who gives meaning and the one who gives meaning again, seeing the faults of disputes as the virtues of peace, should seek the one who abides in tranquility and possesses sixteen kinds of dharmas. Namely: desiring precepts and training, being learned, being skilled in taming, abiding in tranquility, being undefiled like the Dharma, not being led by desires, not being due to greed and hatred, not transgressing the teachings of the Victorious One, not doing what has not been established, not completely cutting off what has been established, being able to pacify that Dharma, and being able to exhort. There are three kinds of those who abide in tranquility: those whose body and speech are not tamed, who personally go to disturb the affairs of both sides; and those who are not tamed, namely, with messengers, etc.; two

Those who are bound, the former who should be appointed in that way are not. Children are of five types: entering because it is not Dharma, seizing those who argue and becoming strong, those who dwell in empty places refuting the Sutras of others, those who expel monks from their dwellings with the Pratimoksha, and those who are disrespectful. It is clear with these five rebuttals. Those who dwell in empty places promise to pacify disputes, and one should examine oneself in eight ways: Do I know from where I first came? Do I have a friend who dwells in an empty place? Is it not someone I knew before? Do I cling to words? Can I purify transgressions? Can I know? Can I pacify according to the Dharma? Am I also skilled in soliciting from non-virtue? One should also examine others in eight ways: Is there anyone here who upholds the words of the Victorious One in this way, holding the Sutras and so on? Are there elders and so on in the dwelling place who seek faults and rebut? Does he rely on the king? Does he rely on someone powerful? Does he rely on a householder? Does he rely on someone else? Does he pacify or separate from the Sangha itself? Those who dwell in empty places should pacify disputes with direct discipline. There are two kinds of things to be done directly: what needs to be done directly to the person, to whom should be pacified, and by whom should be pacified, those should be made present. What needs to be done directly to the Dharma is according to the Dharma and according to the Vinaya. Therefore, for those who give meaning, one should also examine in eight ways: ritual, place of purification, friend, companion, deeds of the body, deeds of speech, livelihood, and hearing. If you know that these are sinful people, you should advise them not to speak. Similarly, for those who give meaning again, there are also eight ways: if it is indeed a sinful person, you should ask what your first occupation was. One should act as he says. One should abide by following in sixteen ways, one should know the giver of meaning himself, as well as examining, requesting forgiveness, asking questions, making vows, and making him happy. Similarly, for those who give meaning again
