One should not be in an inappropriate place, should not sit on a high cushion, should not place a gift on top of a gift, and should not be disrespectful, etc. How should one speak? One should not speak discordant words, should not expel, should not abandon, and should not slander, etc. How should one not speak at all? Through anger, jealousy, hatred, contempt, etc., and with a mind of abandoning sin. One should not look with hateful eyes, etc. How should one act respectfully when engaging in respectful behavior? If one does not do it that way. For disciples, too, starting from disrespect, if it is not the time to mature, not enduring, not following the teachings, not eliminating regret, insulting, mocking, and not gathering with Dharma and wealth, etc., with a mind of affliction, disrespecting all of that will lead to downfall. The so-called master refers to relying on the king and the king's ministers, and one should not do as how to act, etc. What first leads to discord? Because of anger, then one will grasp harmful things. The so-called worldly person, if one does not consider the world, acts with a body of disbelief in that way, urinates and defecates in inappropriate places, and speaks unpleasant words. Furthermore, if one is able to avoid worldly condemnation but does not avoid it, the virtues of oneself and others will be interrupted, not avoiding the initial worldly person, with affliction as the priority, the worldly person says, "Rest a while, it is harmful," etc., all of these will lead to downfall. Regarding the Dharma, even if one is content with the pleasure of laziness, not acting according to the reason of how to enter. If one loses mindfulness, one will also make mistakes. Regarding the term for the Sangha, there are six types of recognition, etc.: two downfalls and four faults. Some say that even if one recognizes something there that is not that, it is still a downfall. The eighth chapter. In Shravasti, because one drank something mixed with elephant wine and beverages in the house of the well-come Brahmin and became drunk, falling on the main road, therefore, the control of the basis of fully accepting alms.

It was established. The ninth precept was established due to afflictions such as disbelief. Among them, what is called grain alcohol refers to drinking chang made from barley, flour, and malt. What is called modified alcohol refers to beverages made from roots, stems, leaves, flowers, and fruits. What is called drinking refers to swallowing into the throat. If one drinks a color, smell, taste, or flavor that intoxicates, even if one condition is missing, or if two other conditions are missing, as long as one drinks something that intoxicates, if one becomes intoxicated, one commits a downfall offense, and if one does not become intoxicated, one commits a misdeed. There is no downfall offense for drinking only the color of something that intoxicates. Whether it is the residue of grain, or modified alcohol, or a mixture of both, drinking a mouthful, or eating grass or stems, one commits a downfall offense. Eating malt stones, and eating flowers and fruits that intoxicate, one commits a misdeed. There is no downfall offense for drinking boiled alcohol, or if a doctor instructs to hold it in the mouth, or to apply it to the body. If one cannot survive because of craving residue, then any beverage that has become alcohol, if it has become flour, should be wrapped in a piece of white cloth, suspended in a container that is not full of alcohol, and in no way should it touch the alcohol. Then, it should be stirred in water and drunk before and after meals. Monks, those who say they want to relieve fatigue should not give, drink, or accept intoxicants. Regarding intoxicants, there are six ways of perceiving them as intoxicants. Some say that even if it is not an intoxicant, if one perceives it as an intoxicant, one commits a downfall offense. Filtering out the residue of alcohol, diluting it with clean water, if it is allowed to be sold, there is no downfall offense for drinking it. The ninth precept. Staying in Shravasti. Because Gatsa (place name) went to the house of the fierce Manama (person's name) at an improper time, and was killed by the leader of thieves, the tenth precept was established based on the foundation of entering a village, due to afflictions that are not circumstantial. What is called an improper time, there are two types of improper times, namely, before dawn and after noon. What is called a village refers to a place with streets and crossroads.
