is manifestly delighted in battle. "War" means any of the four divisions of an army, namely, elephant troops, cavalry, chariots, and infantry. How does a downfall occur in this case? Because near a monastery, a multitude of people gather to fight, and a bhikkhu also wants to watch, being completely bound by attachment to watching due to loss of mindfulness, and those armies are also preparing to fight, or even if they are not preparing, as long as the bhikkhu knows they are fighting, just like before, as soon as he goes and sees the war, it constitutes a downfall. The faults of preparatory actions are countless. Watching the wars of gods, asuras, nagas, etc., also has faults. Even watching birds fighting has faults. Going to watch and investigate the faults of robber armies, or seeing them while going for alms, or sitting on the road or in a monastery, or when an army arrives at a monastery, or when the king, queen, young man, minister, market leader, village head, town, or villagers call, or due to any of the eight obstacles, there is no downfall. The fifth (rule). In Shravasti, King Prasenajit summoned, because the six groups of bhikkhus mocked in that way for going to the place of war, therefore, based on the place of war, the sixth (rule) was established for the sake of unpacified afflictions. How does a downfall occur in this case? In a distant place, an army is preparing to fight, and a bhikkhu is also summoned, or because of obtaining robes, etc., or preparing to meet, or being completely bound by attachment to gain, and that army is also deployed, or even if it is not deployed, as long as the bhikkhu knows that it is deployed there, if he stays until the dawn of the third day, it constitutes a downfall. The faults of preparatory actions are countless. Because of the king's authority, or because of some obstacle, there is no downfall. The sixth (rule). In Shravasti, the six groups of bhikkhus, as before, because they disturbed the deployment of the war from the pit, and in any way made them afraid so that they would flee, therefore, based on the place of war, the seventh (rule) was established for the sake of unpacified afflictions.
