and silver, and lapis lazuli, and vessels made of glass are not allowed. In the abodes of gods, nagas, and yakshas, if no other vessel is available, there is no transgression. Before saying "Sama Prapata," one should not even take a grain of salt. One should not say, "Give me this, I don't want that," nor should one cultivate and eat. There is no transgression in gathering due to small fire or begging naked due to large fire. One should abide for the sake of food with a soft voice, a harmonious attitude, and extremely restrained conduct. One should cultivate the perception of disagreeableness towards food, rely on mindfulness, and eat without letting the mind wander. Having taken food from the bowl, one should not discard it. Or one should give it to lepers, etc. The remaining food, even if laypeople or women come to the monastery, should be given to them to eat their fill. One should consciously give a mouthful of food to beings belonging to the animal realm. One should not touch the bottom of the bowl with one's foot. One should not eat food while wearing shoes. The sick may place their feet on it. One should not eat food making sounds like "tuk tuk" or "krum krum," but one may eat it after soaking it in water. One should not make noise while drinking barley porridge. Large radishes should be cut and eaten. One should not eat while explaining the scriptures. There is no transgression for what one has not heard. If it is past the time, one should listen to the verses twice. The abbot of the sangha should also observe universally. When giving a mouthful of food to animals, one should also moisten it and give it in a way that is comfortable for them. One should not say anything to anyone. Even if one comes as a guest, one should count the number of wooden sticks. When the patron asks, the bhikkhu should speak. If bhikkhus suddenly arrive and it happens to be the time for distributing food, one should speak. If those who are counting are going to another place, one should also speak. If it happens to be the time for distributing food and one is hungry, one should say, "Eat some tsampa and then leave." Strike the ghanta, gather together, and let everyone be comfortable. If the abbot of the sangha sees that there are many beggars and little food, he should say, "Distribute it equally."

This should be done. If someone objects, say, "What is to be gained, it's just a plague." Then, when explaining the merits, take a short rest. If desired, one can leave after giving a Dharma talk. In any case, after eating, in order not to let the wishes fail, one or two verses should be recited to add splendor. Seventh (end). In Shravasti, the monk Napa, who lived by begging, was emaciated. If it rained or if there were bad places, he would wash with warm water and eat, so the eighth rule was established. The so-called "stored overnight" refers to food that has been received into one's hand and left for oneself to eat after a night has passed. Another explanation is that there are two types of stored overnight: food received in the morning is kept for the afternoon meal, and food received in the afternoon exceeds the prescribed time. If one touches without receiving, then one will only commit the offense of storing food, not the offense of storing overnight. If the time is exceeded, the offense of storing overnight will be committed. Regarding stored overnight, if one thinks it is stored overnight, or eats with doubt, swallowing it down the throat will result in a downfall. If it is not stored overnight, but one thinks it is stored overnight, or eats with doubt, one will commit a misdeed. If it is not stored overnight, or even if it is stored overnight, but one thinks it is not stored overnight, there will be no downfall. In the northern borderlands, there is no downfall for food stored overnight, or for food taken in hand or not received. If one takes it from here and goes there to eat, one will commit a downfall. For monks, there are three cases of storing overnight: by the Sangha, by the individual monk, and by the one who gives ordination. For nuns, there are four cases: the nun adds more. These two cases do not constitute storing overnight, because they have no shame and do not cover it up, or although they have shame, they lose mindfulness. For novices and others, if they rely on others or are with others, and eat while relying on others or being with others when receiving food, they will commit a misdeed and a downfall. If they rely on others, but do not rely on others when receiving food and eat, they will only commit a misdeed. If they do not rely on others, but rely on others when receiving food and eat, they will commit a downfall. If neither relies on the other, then neither will commit a downfall.
