The so-called "Great Fast" refers to the grand festival of hair-knotting, or the grand gathering held every five or six years, with some giving alms for five years and others for four. The so-called "monastic mealtime" starts from universal livelihood, etc. Those who have renounced outside of this are also counted as "monastics." Within the boundary, whether one thinks (it is a fast) or hesitates, gathering together and eating will result in a transgression. Outside the boundary, if one thinks it is within the boundary or hesitates, eating will result in a minor offense. Whether outside or inside the boundary, if one gathers outside the boundary, there is no transgression. Similarly, in the case of eating separately, thinking of eating separately should also be explained in six ways. There are two types of dwellings: the foundation dwelling and the house dwelling. In the foundation dwelling, one should ask those who are eating, "Has anything come here from the house dwelling?" Otherwise, a minor offense will be committed. In the house dwelling, if the resident does not ask and eats inconsistently, a transgression will be committed. Three are the same and one is different; three have taken full ordination and one has not; food is distributed to each other; even distributing a pinch of salt or a single lentil; determining each person's dwelling and saying, "Giving to those who live here"; eating in the sky, there is no transgression. Sixth. In Shravasti, seventeen groups ate, and before finishing, they took it out, took it from the laypeople, and because they ate after the time had passed, the seventh was established. The so-called "untimely" has two types: before dawn and after noon. The so-called "edible" and "drinkable" refer to medicines that can be consumed at the prescribed time. The so-called "eating" means that one has not swallowed it oneself. Regarding the case of being past the time, if one thinks it is past the time or hesitates, eating edible food will result in a transgression. Regarding the case of not being past the time, if one thinks it is not past the time or hesitates, eating will result in a minor offense. Regarding not being past the time, even if one mistakenly thinks it is past the time, if one thinks it is not past the time, there is no transgression. Similarly, regarding medicines that can be consumed at the prescribed time, if one thinks they are medicines that can be consumed at the prescribed time.

The sites should be arranged in six ways. For the sick, there is no downfall in using gruel made from flour that comes from cow dung and meat that comes from unclean things eaten by flies. If those things themselves are acceptable in times of sickness, etc., then everything permissible should be given. Even if that thing does not turn into something else. All three continents and the realm of the gods are acceptable, and it should be eaten during the time of Jambudvipa. If it is not the time of Jambudvipa, is it permissible not to taste the flavor? Yes, it is. Monks of the Eastern Videha and the Western Godaniya eat in their own time. The method for using it universally is that many monks gather together, fully understand the time, first strike the small ghanta, and then after those assigned to the sick have finished eating, the ghanta should be struck. If it is not heard, then a conch shell should be blown and a drum used together should be struck. There are five types of ghanta: for all the Sangha, it has three roots and three tops. The work ghanta has three roots and two tops. The death ghanta is a mouse. The ghanta that one enters after renouncing is held in the mouth. The ghanta when harm occurs is done as much as possible. During a great assembly, the rows should be separated. It should be arranged in a pile as if treating the elderly. One should appoint someone to arrange the seating as if treating the elderly. In order to avoid unequal gains, they should also distribute the blessed items through giving and receiving. Or invite them. They should also eat first. Do not eat in the same container. From the time of entering the road, there is no downfall for not having a container. For this, one should also bless and eat together with a novice monk. For those who allow it, it should be held and given. If relatives want to eat together, there is no downfall in eating in a secluded place. Do not eat while wearing the same clothes. Those who are sick, old, and weak should wear thin dust-colored clothes or knee coverings and eat in a secluded place, there is no downfall. If even that is not possible, then wear the same clothes.
