This is permitted for the sake of enjoyment. After washing the hands, give thanks. If a monk has eaten and not discarded the food, or if he has discarded it but his conduct is not proper, then he should squat in front of him and say: 'Venerable one, please listen. I, a monk named so-and-so, whether I want it or not, have discarded and completely finished the food and drink that has been obtained from what has been concluded. If I want to seek it, please be kind and give it to me.' He should say this. He should also eat two or three mouthfuls and say: 'This is for you, take it.' For that which has not been discarded, one may eat it, and may also eat more. Other than that, if someone gives it and says, 'This is for you, take it,' one should not eat it. If one eats it, one will commit a serious offense. Five situations are not considered giving: giving outside the boundary, sitting on the side that is not entitled, giving from behind, giving from the side, and improper conduct. The opposite of these five situations is giving. There are also five situations: not vomit, not the residue of the bowl, not the first and last mentioned before. The opposite of these five is giving. If one person gives, then everyone can eat. What is called not giving is called not giving, meaning not giving and not concluding. What is called food is the five kinds of food. What is called drink is like drink, swallowing it into the throat. If one thinks that discarded food is discarded, or if one is hesitant, if one swallows food that has not been given into the throat, one commits a downfall. If one thinks that food that has not been discarded is discarded, or if one eats with hesitation, one commits a misdeed. If one has already eaten something that should not be eaten, and one eats it without giving, one commits a downfall. For a sick person, eating food that has not been given, or food that should not be eaten, or seven-day medicine, or discarding food that should not be eaten, there is no downfall. Other than the five kinds of food, there is no downfall because it has not been discarded. The roots of utpala and other plants, the fruits of the north, the stems of heavenly lotuses, etc., are offered to the Three Jewels, so there is no downfall even if they are eaten.

Some say that it was during a time of famine. Similarly, whether one has abandoned or not, it is the same as perceiving that one has not abandoned. If it is like barley porridge, how does one abandon it? It is when the mouth is tilted upwards. If it is like sour porridge, how does one abandon it? It is when the lines of the five fingers are visible separately on top. There is no falling into the throat and esophagus. Fourth. In Shravasti (Mnyan-yod), an elderly monk who had taken ordination continuously committed offenses. When someone spoke of this, he became angry and made the teacher eat food that had not been specially prepared, thus the fifth was established. The so-called "power of time" is to repeatedly invite guests. The so-called "seeking opportunity" refers to teaching. The distinction here is the thought that one must by all means cause this monk to commit an offense, which is the meaning of "causing him to fall into offense." In this way, one becomes controlled. The so-called "that itself" refers to causing someone to eat, thinking it is something else, in which case there is no falling. For abandonment, one should also add the six situations of perceiving that one has abandoned. Similarly, for food that has not been specially prepared, one should also add the six situations of perceiving that it has not been specially prepared, namely two falls, two offenses, and two without falling. Fifth. In Rajagriha (rGyal-po'i khab), starting from Devadatta (Lha-sbyin), the sixth was established. The so-called "gathering and eating" refers to eating discordantly. Within the boundary, it does not refer to one person being discordant, but to eating with four or more people. How is it considered to be equally controlled? Whatever one eats by perceiving with the body, that itself is a fall. The characteristic of the body's action is that of that fall. There is no falling from the precepts of the words of food, those are all foods. The so-called "time of sickness" refers to the sick, given by a child, but not given to all the monks, the sick child did not take it away, but allowed it, referring to someone who cannot sustain life, that is also sick. The so-called "time of work" refers to even a small amount of broom or a circular base, holding it in the hand and wiping it with cow dung. The so-called "time of the road" refers to going one krosha (dpag tshad, about 4-5 kilometers) or half a krosha and then returning. The so-called "time of boarding a boat" is like the road. Gathered
