A monk should be taught not to spill water contaminated with food. One should be taught not to pour water contaminated with food into another's house without asking the householder. These are the things to be taught. The basis for teaching not to look at the alms bowl of a monk sitting nearby in order to mock him is: The Buddha, the Bhagavan, was staying in Shravasti, in the Jeta Grove, Anathapindika's Garden. When the group of six monks were eating alms in another's house, they mocked many monks sitting next to them, happily joking, saying, "Look at this one, eating so much!" At that time, the monks reported to the Bhagavan. The Bhagavan, as before, established the precept: "One should be taught not to look at the alms bowl of a monk sitting nearby in order to mock him." The place was Shravasti, the people were the group of six monks, the defilement was the offense of mockery, the fault was looking at the monk's alms bowl in order to mock him. Among these, "not to look at the alms bowl of a monk sitting nearby in order to mock him" means not to look in order to mock, and one should be taught not to mock and insult in that way, committing offenses. "Sitting nearby" is only a symbol, and it should be understood that it also includes sitting far away. This training and the following three are teachings not to commit offenses. This is a general instruction, and the following three are its elaboration, not an instruction in another way. Among these, here the fundamental transgression is classified: in the fundamental situation, if it is not done in that way, it becomes the basis of a misdeed that should be confessed. The agent here is the act of mocking the monk's alms bowl and the act of looking itself. The branch here is one, namely the accomplishment of the fundamental itself. Regarding the combination and the accomplishment of the combination of combinations, one should be reproached as appropriate, and this is also the same as before. The sixty-ninth training. The basis for teaching not to hold a water vessel with hands contaminated with food is: The Buddha, the Bhagavan, was staying in Shravasti, in the Jeta Grove, Anathapindika's Garden.

was staying at the Jetavana Monastery. When the group of six monks were eating alms in other people's homes, they would touch the water vessel with their hands soiled with food. Unbelievers would then mock them, saying, "These Shakyaputra ascetics touch the water vessel with their hands soiled with food, they are unclean." At that time, the monks reported this to the Blessed One. The Blessed One, as before, made the rule that one should be taught not to touch the water vessel with hands soiled with food. The place was Sravasti. The people were the group of six monks. The affliction was the offense of being unclean. The offense was touching the vessel with hands soiled with food and water. Therefore, the so-called not touching the water vessel with hands soiled with food means not touching water vessels such as bird-beak pots with hands and food soiled. Therefore, they should be taught not to commit the offense of being unclean. Here, the classification of the fundamental transgression is as follows: In the fundamental matter, if it is not done as such, it will become the fundamental of an evil deed that should be confessed. The agent here is the hand, the soiling of food, and the act of holding the water vessel itself. There is one branch here, which is the completion of the fundamental. Regarding the combination and the completion of the combination of combinations, it is also the same as before. The seventieth precept. The basis for the precept that one should be taught not to sprinkle water soiled with food on a monk sitting nearby is as follows: The Buddha, the Blessed One, was staying in Sravasti at the Jetavana Monastery, which was offered by Anathapindika. When the group of six monks were eating alms in other people's homes, there was a monk wearing a red and yellow kasaya sitting below them. The group of six monks said, "This lovely, pleasant beggar thinks in his heart that we have never worn such a kasaya before, we must make him unhappy." So they sprinkled water soiled with food on him and began to insult him. At that time, the monks reported this to the Blessed One. The Blessed One, as before, made the rule that one should be taught not to sprinkle water soiled with food on a monk sitting nearby. The place was Sravasti. The people were the group of six monks. The affliction was the offense of causing harm.
