Or my words are brief, or whatever is different, and entering into the meaning of stealing, and ultimately becoming something different from the body. If any of these are incomplete, they should be appropriately reproached. This is the abandonment of stealing, the twenty-fifth. Volume Eight. The beginning of the abandonment arising from deception is: The Buddha Bhagavan was dwelling in Shravasti, in Jeta's Grove, Anathapindika's Park. At the foot of a certain mountain, there lived a householder who was faithful, virtuous, and of good intention. He had the monastery build a Sangharama with a high horse-path, with windows, window lattices, and decorated with balconies, captivating the heart and eyes, becoming a staircase to the heavens, and a monastery equipped with beds, small beds, and various utensils. Sixty monks lived there, and the householder provided them with necessities such as robes and alms. Then, at another time, the householder passed away, and his son did not provide the utensils. The sixty monks then departed. When two elders were dwelling there, merchants of like mind from the north came there and offered alms to sixty monks for three months of the rainy season, as well as eight thousand, fourteen thousand, and the cause of illness, and medicinal utensils, and gains, and goods for robes, saying: Good monks, please agree to stay here for this rainy season, and we will also come here during the rainy season and provide for a hundred monks. They spoke these words to the two elders and departed. Then, one elder hid the gains, and the other called the group of six from Shravasti, and the group of six took the work away from the two elders, appointed a gluttonous monk, and provided eighteen kinds of food each day, as well as various kinds of oily vegetables and well-prepared drinks, and ate all the alms for the three months of the rainy season, and also divided the gains of the robes, and then went to Shravasti, promising to reside there for the next rainy season. When the first rainy season had passed, merchants of like mind from the north came there
