Even if monks find an opportunity, they will be helped by the power of pure morality to protect them, etc.; even if yakshas, non-humans, and evil permanent residents find an opportunity, they will be helped by the power of pure morality to protect them, etc.; from others, Dharma robes and other things will be easily and timely obtained through the Dharma; all aspirations, such as wanting to be born in a certain place, will be truly fulfilled. What is guarding the senses? Relying on the discipline of morality, constantly guarding mindfulness, constantly striving for mindfulness, guarding the mind with mindfulness, abiding in an equal state, when the eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body, and mind perceive forms, sounds, smells, tastes, touches, and dharmas, they do not cling to signs, do not cling to manifest signs, and strive to fundamentally cut off the sinful and unwholesome dharmas that arise from their minds, guarding the senses, and the senses also practice restraint. Therefore, it is closing the doors of the senses. What is knowing the measure of food? After guarding the senses in this way, carefully observe and eat, not for playfulness, not for obesity, not for showing off, not for decoration, but to maintain this body, to survive, to eliminate hunger, to help with pure conduct, to abandon old feelings, to prevent new feelings from arising, to nourish oneself, to gain strength and happiness, to be without fault, and to abide in happiness. Thinking in this way, one eats. What is diligently practicing without sleeping in the early and late parts of the night? After knowing the measure of food in this way, during the day, one purifies the mind from the dharmas that would obscure it through walking and sitting meditation, and in the first part of the night, one also purifies the mind from the dharmas that would obscure it through walking and sitting meditation, in the middle of the night

Having come out of the monastery, washing the feet outside the monastery, entering the monastery, lying down on the right side, with feet placed upon feet, contemplating only with the awareness of light, mindfulness, and clear comprehension. In the last watch of the night, waking up quickly, and completely purifying the mind from those things that would become obstacles through walking and sitting. What is acting with clear comprehension? Like this, not sleeping, but striving after practice, acting with clear comprehension in going and returning. Slightly looking, carefully looking, contracting, stretching, wearing the monastic skirt, the Dharma robe, carrying the alms bowl, eating, drinking, chewing, tasting, going, staying, sitting, lying down, not lying down, speaking, not speaking, dispelling drowsiness, all these are acting with clear comprehension. Therefore, even keeping the precepts is very rare, let alone guarding the sense doors, etc., there is no need to mention. Even if the precepts are completely pure, it is very difficult to find a good friend. This shows that a virtuous spiritual friend, listening to and contemplating the Dharma, being without obstacles, giving and the adornment of a renunciate are rare. What is a virtuous spiritual friend? Through eight causes, one should know that he is a virtuous spiritual friend who is complete in all aspects. What are the eight? Abiding in morality, having heard much, possessing realization, possessing compassion, not being weary in mind, possessing patience, possessing fearlessness, possessing the ability of speech. What is listening to and contemplating the Dharma? Listening to and holding the Dharma taught by the holy Buddha and the Buddha's Shravakas, which belongs to the sacred teachings, the twelve divisions of scripture and all that is contained in the three baskets, going alone to a solitary place, away from inconceivable places, and then contemplating the Dharma that has been heard in terms of its own characteristics and common characteristics.

One contemplates with the aspect of fullness, satisfying the mind with all phenomena, and with the aspect of measurement, examining merits and faults closely with reason. What is it to be without obstacles? It is to be without obstacles that rely on the internal and obstacles that rely on the external. Among these, obstacles that rely on the internal are: because of not having accumulated merit in the past, the necessary means of livelihood do not become available at all times; attachment, hatred, and ignorance are strong and prolonged; having done deeds that cause much illness in the past, one suffers from many diseases; having behaved improperly in this life, the wind, bile, and phlegm in the body become disturbed, and one experiences belching and other symptoms; food is difficult to swallow, affairs are numerous, work is busy, gatherings are many, one enjoys work, enjoys talking, enjoys sleeping, enjoys frivolous talk, enjoys commotion, clings to self, is unstable, is careless, is born in a bad place, and is in accordance with such things. Obstacles that rely on the external are: relying on non-virtuous people and following their advice and instructions, one cannot obtain them in time; living in a bad place, many unpleasant things occur during the day, and at night many people are always making noise, with much clamor and loud voices; the touch of wind and sun is cold and hot; one is frightened by humans and non-humans, and is in accordance with such things. Furthermore, there are three kinds of obstacles: obstacles to practice, obstacles to solitude, and obstacles to perfect absorption. To be without these obstacles is to be without obstacles. What is the increase of giving? It is to give without fault in order to achieve the adornment of the mind, the equipment of the mind, the assembly of yoga, and the attainment of supreme meaning. So, by whom is giving done? To whom is giving done? What is given? With what is giving done? How is giving done? Why is giving done? And by what does that giving become faultless? It is done by the giver and the patron. To whom is giving done? It is done to four: the suffering, the benefactors, the beloved,
