Pa. The offense is taking gold and silver with one's own hand, or causing others to take it. Among them, "bhikshu" refers to the group of six bhikshus, or others like them. "One's own hand" refers to using one's own hand. "Gold and silver" refers to gold and silver. "Taking" refers to oneself. "Causing to take" refers to others. "Nissaggiya Pacittiya" refers to the same as before. Among them, here is the classification of the fundamental offense: If a bhikshu possesses unpermitted jewels, gems, pearls, lapis lazuli, conch shells, coral, silver, gold, the essence of stones, sapphires, red objects, right-spiraling conch shells, etc., which are within the range of being obtained, and claims them as his own, or touches his own unpermitted jewels in any way, it constitutes the fundamental Nissaggiya Pacittiya offense of touching gold and silver. The act of this offense is the unpermitted jewels, gems, etc. This offense becomes a fundamental offense through five limbs: jewels, being within the range of being obtained, claiming them as one's own, being unpermitted, and touching or causing to touch. If these limbs are incomplete, then appropriate reprimands are given accordingly. The Nissaggiya Pacittiya of touching gold and silver, the one hundred and eighteenth. The basis of the Nissaggiya Pacittiya of behavior with obvious characteristics is: The Buddha Bhagavan was residing in Shravasti, in the Jeta Grove, Anathapindika's Garden. At that time, the group of six bhikshus engaged in various behaviors with obvious characteristics. They colluded everywhere, colluded extremely, lent money, charged interest, said they had done something after doing it, said they had not done something after doing it, said they had done something after not doing it, and said they had not done something after not doing it, and thus spread it around. Other non-Buddhists, as before, reviled, quarreled, and slandered. At that time, the bhikshus reported to the Bhagavan. Then, the Bhagavan said as before: If a bhikshu engages in various behaviors with obvious characteristics, he commits a Nissaggiya Pacittiya offense. This is how the precept was established.

It exists. The individual is the group of six. Affliction is the desire to engage in non-ascetic behavior. Fault is engaging in various kinds of ostentatious conduct. Among them, what is called a bhikshu? Is it the group of six? Or others who are like them? What is called ostentatious conduct? It is engaging in ostentatious conduct merely out of the desire for profit, using cowries and jewels, etc. What is called various? It is many kinds. If one does, it means universally combining, and especially combining, and lending money, and collecting interest, and doing for the sake of doing, and not doing for the sake of doing, and doing for the sake of not doing, and not doing for the sake of not doing, abandoning and enjoying even more. It is called abandoning and incurring a downfall, just like before. Among them, one should know that the difference in the object between the previous abandonment and this one and the next three is this: the previous one is due to touching jewels, etc. This one is due to using cowries and jewels, etc., merely out of the desire for profit. The next one is when interest arises from engaging in trade, etc., desiring to obtain profit by any means. Having shown the difference in this way, here the actual downfall is determined as follows: if a bhikshu, desiring to obtain profit, obtains interest from the other party, who is a householder and not a relative, by using cowries and jewels, then that interest becomes the actual basis for the abandonment and downfall of ostentatious conduct. The agent here is the desire to obtain profit, and the other party is a householder and not a relative, and the use of cowries and jewels, and the arising of interest. Here, the actual downfall occurs through five limbs: the desire to obtain profit, and the other party being a householder and not a relative, and the use of cowries and jewels, and the arising of interest. If these limbs are not complete, then one is rebuked accordingly. Abandonment of ostentatious conduct, this is the nineteenth.\ \ The basis for the abandonment of trade is: the Buddha Bhagavan resided in Shravasti, in Jeta Grove, Anathapindika's Garden.

Doing various things. Taking, giving, buying, selling, so other heretics scold as before. Engaging in barter, gossiping, at that time, the monks reported to the Blessed One. Then the Blessed One, as before, ordained: If any monk engages in various kinds of trade, it is an offense of expiation. The place is Shravasti. The persons are the group of six monks. The affliction is wanting to act in a way that is not befitting a monk. The offense is engaging in various kinds of trade. Among them, "any monk" refers to the group of six monks or anyone else like them. "Trade" means wanting to obtain anything and engaging in trade. "Various kinds" means many kinds. "Doing" means taking, giving, buying, selling, etc., especially engaging in them. "Offense of expiation" means as before. This expiation regarding trade is a distinction of the expiation of conduct with obvious characteristics shown earlier, all other characteristics are the same. Specifically, the difference in the objects of the previous two expiations and this third one is this: the expiation of touching gold and silver is from touching jewels, etc. The expiation of conduct with obvious characteristics is from wanting to gain profit and touching cowries and jewels, etc. The expiation of trade is from wanting to obtain anything and generating profit from engaging in trade, etc. Therefore, here the fundamental offense is classified: If a monk wants to gain profit, and to another person, that is, a householder, and not a relative, profit is generated from engaging in trade, etc., then engaging in trade from that profit becomes the basis of the offense of expiation of trade. The agent of this is wanting to gain profit, the other person is a householder, and not a relative, engaging in trade, and profit is generated. This becomes a fundamental offense through five limbs: wanting to gain profit, the other person being a householder, and not a relative, engaging in trade, and profit being generated.
