If they were to wander into the forest. Then, after they had lost their way, those waiting for the skinners to stop their clamor, entered from the small hut of Jeta Grove, and those burdens of wool were unloaded, existing like a great heap resembling Mount Meru, and they themselves did not feel ashamed, but were content. The monks reproached those monks who were content with little, slandered them, and spoke evil words. Then the monks reported to the Blessed One. Then the Blessed One said as before: Monks, if you find wool while walking on the road, if you need it, that monk may take it. Having taken it, if he does not carry it, he should carry it himself to the end of three yojanas. If he carries it beyond that distance, it is an offense of expiation. Thus the rule was established. The place was Śrāvastī. The persons were the group of six monks. The afflictions were desire, anger, and shamelessness. The offense was a long distance.

It is the ultimate of extensive explanation. If any of those parts are incomplete, they should be reproached as appropriate. It is the abandonment of taking wool, the sixteenth. The origin of making felt is: The Buddha, the Bhagavan, was staying in Shravasti, in the Jeta Grove, in the Garden of Anathapindika. The Six Groups divided the wool into six parts, and the monk named Chaga entrusted his share of the wool to the great mother of beings, Gautami (Sanskrit: Gautamī), to make felt. Then he sent two disciples to fetch it, and they dismantled it in the summer house, forming a large pile. The great mother of beings, Gautami, and her retinue, made felt for a long time, so that their hands became as red as the hands of washerwomen, becoming very red. They came before the Bhagavan. Venerable Ananda, monks! The Buddha commanded: Do monks allow non-relative nuns to make felt? As before. If a monk allows a non-relative nun to wash wool, boil wool, or make felt, it is an abandonment requiring expiation. The place of origin is Shravasti, the person is Chaga, the affliction is the desire for improper monastic conduct, the offense is allowing a non-relative nun to make felt. Among them, a monk refers to Chaga or others like him. A nun refers to a follower of this Dharma. Non-relative refers to those from the maternal grandmother and grandfather, up to the seventh generation relying on lineage are relatives, beyond that range they are not relatives. Wool refers to sheep's wool. Washing refers to even allowing it to be soaked in water. Making felt refers to even allowing it to be beaten. Boiling refers to even allowing it to be dyed. Abandonment requiring expiation refers to as before. This abandonment of making felt is as firm as the previous abandonment of washing wool, and all characteristics are the same. The difference is that previously it was said to obtain clothes, while here it is wool. Previously it was said to wash, while here it should be said to make felt. That

Here, the root downfalls are separately established: If a bhikṣu, through instruction, causes a non-intimate bhikṣuṇī to spin wool, or boil wool, or card wool, once it is done, it becomes the root of the expiatory downfall of carding wool. The perpetrator of this is mainly the one who has a perception of the object of wool and a non-intimate bhikṣuṇī. This downfall becomes a root downfall with five branches: wool, suitability, a non-intimate bhikṣuṇī, instruction, and the act. If these branches are not complete, then there is blame accordingly. The expiatory act of carding wool, which is the seventeenth. The basis for the expiatory act of touching gold and silver is: The Buddha, the Bhagavan, was dwelling in Śrāvastī, in the Jeta Grove, Anāthapiṇḍika's Garden. At that time, the group of six bhikṣus were taking gold and silver with their own hands, and also causing others to take it, piling it into one heap, piling it into two heaps, placing it on beds, small beds, and even smaller beds. Other non-Buddhists, knowledgeable people, and Śākya's renunciates said: These have not regressed, have not abandoned, have not individually abandoned, like this, taking gold and silver with their own hands, piling it into one heap, piling it into two heaps, placing it on beds, small beds, and even smaller beds. Brahmins and householders also take gold and silver with their own hands, and also cause others to take it, piling it into one heap, piling it into two heaps, placing it on beds, small beds, and even smaller beds. What is the difference between what the knowledgeable people, Śākya's renunciates, and the Brahmins and householders do? What is the difference in thought? What is the difference in action? Who would think of giving alms to these bald-headed renunciates? They were therefore slandering, blaming, and speaking harshly. At that time, the bhikṣus reported to the Bhagavan. Then, the Bhagavan, as before, again ordained: If any bhikṣu takes gold and silver with his own hand, or causes others to take it, he commits an expiatory downfall. The place was Śrāvastī, the people were the group of six bhikṣus, and the affliction was the desire to do improper renunciate behavior.
