Furthermore, the Blessed One went to Kosala for wandering, accompanying as an attendant. Then, the Blessed One came to Shravasti and resided in Jeta Grove, Anathapindika's Garden in Shravasti. At that time, the Brahmin Summer Cultivation, because the merchants of Shravasti came to Rajagriha for business, entrusted someone going to Shravasti with sixty Karshapanas, instructing: 'Please offer it to Nanda.' After that, that merchant took those coins and offered them to Nanda in Shravasti. Nanda took those coins from the market, despised the children who brought them to the monastery, and finally hid the coins in the house of a faithful incense merchant's son. The next morning, Nanda came to collect the coins, and the merchants also agreed: 'Among us, whoever comes late in the morning, arriving after sunrise, will be fined sixty Karshapanas.' After that, Nanda demanded the sixty Karshapanas hidden with the incense merchant's son. When the incense merchant's son offered the coins to Nanda, Nanda scolded him with words like 'Watch the road,' and then the sun rose. The incense merchant's son was fined sixty Karshapanas for being late and was scolded. While they were arguing and blaming each other, the monks reported to the Blessed One. Then, the Blessed One, considering the need to prohibit material offerings and unseemly things, as before, for the sake of the monks, the king or minister, or Brahmin, or householder, or the householder's wife, or the people of the town, or the people of the village, or the rich, or the merchant, or the caravan leader entrusted the price of clothes to a messenger. After that, that messenger took the price of the clothes and went to where the monk was, and after arriving, said to the monk: 'Venerable, please know, King or Minister, or Brahmin, or householder, or the householder's wife, or the people of the town, or the people of the village, or the rich, or the merchant, or the caravan leader so-and-so has entrusted me to send these prices of clothes, please venerable, accept these for the sake of compassion.' At this time, the monk said to the messenger: 'Life-endowed messenger, monks do not accept the price of clothes.'

It should not be like that. If we get suitable cloth in time, we should say, "Take it." If that messenger says to that bhikkhu, "Is there anything that the venerable ones have entrusted, that the venerable ones have accepted the entrustment?" If he says so, the bhikkhu who wants cloth should (point to) this messenger and say, "This is the one who entrusts for the bhikkhus, this is the one who accepts the entrustment for the bhikkhus," or indicate the monastery, or indicate the layperson who entrusts. Then that messenger, taking those cloth prices, should go to where the entrustor is, and after going, say to that entrustor, "Venerable entrustor, please know! You use these cloth prices to buy this kind and that kind of cloth, and let the bhikkhu named so-and-so come, and put suitable cloth on him in time." Then that messenger should very carefully admonish and instruct that entrustor, and then go to where the bhikkhu is, and after going, say to that bhikkhu, "I have correctly instructed from the entrustor indicated by the venerable one, please go to him, and he will put suitable cloth on you in time." The bhikkhu who wants cloth goes to the entrustor, and says to the venerable entrustor, "I want cloth, venerable entrustor, I want cloth." He should repeatedly request two or three times, and remember. After repeatedly requesting two or three times and remembering, if the cloth is made, that is good. If it is not made, he should remain silent and sit, until four, five, or six times. After remaining silent and sitting, until four, five, or six times, if the cloth is made, that is good. If it is not made, then after that, he should search in order to make the cloth. If the cloth is made, it is a Nissaggiya Pacittiya. If it is not made, I should go to the place where those cloth prices came from. Or, from a trustworthy messenger, learn that those cloth prices sent by the venerable ones for a certain bhikkhu have not accomplished anything for that bhikkhu. Venerable ones, do not let your own wealth go to
