Or do like that. "Except the Sangha allows" means, except the Sangha allows. "Nissaggiya Pacittiya" means, after abandoning that object, one must confess the offense of downfall, so it is called Nissaggiya Pacittiya. Here, the fundamental offenses are classified: if one blesses a monastic robe without permission, or leaves the dwelling and its surrounding area for more than one night, it becomes the fundamental offense of separation and abandonment. The actor here is the one who blesses and the one who does not have permission. Having five conditions will constitute the fundamental offense: not having permission, blessing, being suitable for making clothes, having a dwelling and surrounding area, and leaving for one night. If these conditions are not complete, then one will be punished accordingly. Separation and abandonment, the second. The beginning of the basis for storing and abandoning is: the Buddha Bhagavan lived in Shravasti, in the Jeta Grove, Anathapindika's Garden. At that time, because the monks had too many clothes, if they obtained blue, yellow, red, thick, and thin clothes, they would not allow it to be used to make clothes, but hoped that when they obtained similar clothes, they would start making robes. Therefore, they stored them. Those monks with few desires would criticize them, reproach them, and scold them. At that time, the monks reported to the Bhagavan. Then, the Bhagavan said as before: a monk has already obtained a monastic robe, if he dismantles and stretches it, and obtains an untimely cloth, if he wishes, the monk should accept that cloth. After accepting it, if it is enough, he should quickly use it to make and wear it. If it is not enough, and he hopes to supplement it with the remaining fabric, then the monk should store that cloth for a maximum of one month. If it is stored beyond this time, one will commit a Nissaggiya Pacittiya. Therefore, the precepts were established. The place is Shravasti. The people are very many monks. The affliction is greed for material things. The offense is storing the corners of clothes, etc. Among them, "a monk has already obtained a monastic robe, if he dismantles and stretches it," this is the same as before. As for "untimely cloth," when is the time for a monk's clothing?

What is the inappropriate time? In a place where a hard surface has been laid, the months from the last day of mid-autumn to the last day of mid-spring are the season for robes, and after that, it is not the season. In a place where a hard surface has not been laid, all times are inappropriate. "To obtain" means from others. "If one desires" means if one truly needs it. "The bhikshu should take that robe" means to possess it. "If it is permissible" means if it is allowed. "Having made it into a Dharma robe and holding it" means only making an unstitched robe fit to be blessed. "If" means if it is not permissible. "Supplementing what is incomplete" means supplementing what is incomplete of the sanghati, the upper robe, or the lower skirt. "If there is hope for a robe" means for a bhikshu, the mother hopes to give me a robe, or the father, or brother, or sister, or teacher, or khenpo hopes to give me a robe, or at the time of the five-year festival, or the six-year festival, or the hair-cutting festival, or the dwelling festival, or the great festival, there is hope of obtaining. "The bhikshu should keep that robe until the end of a month" means until the end of a month. "If one keeps it beyond that time" means exceeding that time. "Nissaggiya Pacittiya" means that after abandoning that object, one must confess the offense of downfall, therefore it is called Nissaggiya Pacittiya. Here, the distinction of the fundamental downfall is: if a bhikshu has hope of supplementing a robe, and does not have the three Dharma robes that can be blessed, keeping a small robe less than one cubit long for more than thirty days, it becomes the fundamental of the Nissaggiya Pacittiya of keeping. The agent of this offense is: having hope of supplementing a robe, and not having the three Dharma robes that can be blessed. This offense becomes a fundamental downfall with five limbs: having hope of supplementing a robe, not having the three Dharma robes that can be blessed, the robe, the size being one cubit or more, and exceeding thirty days. If these limbs are not complete, the offense is mitigated accordingly. The Nissaggiya of keeping, the third.

The origin of the matter of relinquishing washing is: The Buddha, the Bhagavan, was dwelling in Shravasti, in the Jeta Grove, Anathapindika's Garden. At that time, the venerable Ajita had his former wife, the bhikkhuni Sema, come to his residence and began to teach her the Dharma. Recalling their previous laughter, joy, play, and enjoyment, he became completely consumed by desire and began to approach her. When Sema fled, Ajita pursued her, and at that time, due to the touch of his thighs, semen was discharged, and his lower garment became unsuitable. When Sema picked it up and began to wash it, Sema also became completely consumed by desire and poured the semen into the opening of her womb, and thus a son named Youth was conceived. At that time, the bhikshus reported to the Bhagavan. Then, the Bhagavan considered: The fault of the bhikshus is caused by having a non-relative bhikkhuni wash old clothes. As before, he again decreed: If any bhikshu has a non-relative bhikkhuni wash old clothes, or dye them, or beat them, he commits an offense of relinquishment. The place was Shravasti, the person was Ajita, the affliction was desire, and the fault was having a non-relative bhikkhuni wash old clothes. Among these, 'any bhikshu' refers to Ajita, or anyone else like him. 'Bhikkhuni' refers to a follower of this Dharma. 'Non-relative' means that up to the seventh generation from the maternal grandmother and grandfather, and from the grandson, are relatives, but beyond that they are not relatives. 'Clothes' refers to any of the seven types of clothes, namely wool, linen, fine linen, coarse linen, cotton-wool, kudzu cloth, and silk. 'Old' refers to anything that has been used in any of the three periods of past, present, or future. 'Washing' means even having her soak it in water. 'Dyeing' means even having her soak it in dye. 'Beating' means even having her beat it with ashes. 'An offense of relinquishment' means as before.
