If that basis is not abandoned, then after that, it should be admonished with a request and four karmas. The monks, having heard the words of the Blessed One, first admonish the Sangha of monks, and then admonish with a request and four karmas. But regarding that very basis, they tenaciously hold it as the best, and manifestly cling to it, saying, "This alone is true, the others are false," and in that circumstance, the monks reported to the Blessed One. Then the Blessed One, because of this event, this origin, and this occasion, convened the Sangha of monks, knowingly harming the Sangha, and in various ways rebuked them. Having fully seen the ten benefits of establishing the precepts, he said, "My disciples should recite and study the basis of discipline in this way: 'Here, some monks have become by nature unwilling to accept instruction. To them, when the monks speak of the bases of training that are to be spoken, and the sutras belonging to the Sugata, which are in accordance with the Dharma and in accordance with the Vinaya, those venerable ones say: "Venerable ones, whether it is good or bad, do not say anything to me. I also, whether it is good or bad, will not say anything to the venerable ones. Venerable ones, it is enough that you have spoken to me, stop speaking! What is the use of me speaking to you?"' If they do not wish to be admonished, then the monks should say to that monk: "Venerable one, when the monks speak of the bases of training that are to be spoken, and the sutras belonging to the Sugata, which are in accordance with the Dharma and in accordance with the Vinaya, do not be unwilling to be admonished, but the venerable one should only accept admonishment. When the monks speak to the venerable one in accordance with the Dharma and in accordance with the Vinaya, the venerable one should also speak to the monks in accordance with the Dharma and in accordance with the Vinaya.' Like this, they should admonish each other, instruct and show each other, and point out each other's faults. In this way, the Blessed One, the Tathagata
