There. The place is Jetavana. The people are the Six Groups of monks. The affliction is desire, the offense is acting as an intermediary. Among them, the so-called "monk so-and-so" is as previously stated. The so-called "with the words of a man to a woman" means speaking to a woman the words of a man's intention to engage in sexual activity. The so-called "with the words of a woman to a man" means speaking to a man the words of a woman's intention to engage in sexual activity. The so-called "whether a wife or a lover" refers to seven types of wives and ten types of lovers. What are the seven types of wives? Those given by the hour, those bought with wealth, those taken as prisoners of war, those who come together voluntarily, those supported with clothing and food, those with a verbal agreement, and those who meet occasionally. What are the ten types of lovers? Those guarded by the mother, those guarded by the father, those guarded by the husband, those guarded by the brother, those guarded by the mother-in-law, those guarded by the father-in-law, those guarded by relatives, those guarded by lineage, those guarded by bloodline, and those where no confusion has occurred. The so-called "intermediary" means receiving information from what should be delivered, passing it on, and passing it back, in order to bring the two together. The so-called "meet" means ultimately grasping. The so-called "even" means ultimately grasping. The so-called "even meeting occasionally is acceptable" means that it is acceptable even in the case of having a prostitute, for those with assembly women and associating women, and for those who sell their bodies, this is a concluding statement. The so-called "Sanghavasesa" is as previously stated. Here, the downfall of acting as an intermediary should be understood from the determination of the owner, the basis, and the time. Among them, the so-called owner is shown by what is said, "with the words of a man to a woman, with the words of a woman to a man." The so-called basis is shown by what is said, "whether a wife or a lover, acting as an intermediary." The so-called time is shown by what is said, "even meeting occasionally is acceptable." Here, the actual establishment of the downfall is: by the method of acting as an intermediary, causing a man and a woman, or others who were previously not in harmony, to become harmonious, if these two meet for the purpose of engaging in impure conduct, it will become a Sanghavasesa. The distinction is that the man and woman were previously not in harmony.

In order to accomplish the entrusted matter, whether it is a man or a woman, accepting, conveying, and replying to the message three times, if the two come into contact with impure things as a result, it becomes the basis of a sanghavasesa. The executor of this matter must be a human being, capable of performing impure sexual acts, and knowledgeable in the meaning of well-spoken and ill-spoken teachings. This root downfall is composed of seven branches: being a person, being another, being incompatible, receiving the message, conveying the message, replying to the message, and the two contacting each other. If any of the above branches are missing, then appropriate censure will be given according to the situation. This is the fifth sanghavasesa of mediation. The origin of the sanghavasesa of dwellings is: When the Buddha Bhagavan was residing in Sravasti, in the Jeta Grove of Prince Jeta, in the Anathapindika Garden, the monks had too many dwellings. Some abandoned them because the dwellings were too long and let others use them. Some said that the dwellings were too short, too wide, too narrow, too old, too weak, or poorly constructed, so they abandoned them to others. They built dwellings, or had others build them, resulting in many affairs, abandoning listening, reading, reciting, meditating, and contemplating, and constantly engaging in cutting grass, cutting trees, hiring workers, making vehicles, etc., and were ridiculed by Brahmins and householders. The Venerable Maha Maudgalyayana heard this and reported it to the Bhagavan. Then, the Bhagavan, because of this matter, this origin, and this cause, gathered the Sangha of monks, rebuked those who were greedy, insatiable, difficult to support, and difficult to fill, and praised those who were content with little desire, easy to support, easy to fill, simple, frugal, possessing the qualities of cultivation, dignified, and knowing measure, and established the precepts.
