He is a thief! He is a child! He is a fool! They say he is stealing! Whether they kill, bind, or expel him, if a monk takes what is not given, that monk becomes a defeated one and cannot abide. Thus it was established. The place is Rajagriha, the person is a wealthy man, the affliction is desire, and the offense is taking what is not given. Regarding this, "which monk" is as before. "Others" refers to men, women, and hermaphrodites. This is also to distinguish self-ownership, because self-ownership is spoken of as gross. "Dwelling in a village" means dwelling within a fence. "Dwelling in a monastery" means dwelling outside a fence. "Not given" means not given by a man, woman, or hermaphrodite. "Belonging to the category of theft" means that whatever is not given also belongs to the category of theft. "If taken" means taking it as one's own by force or stealth. "By how much not given is taken" means five mashakas or more than five mashakas, depending on the place and time. "That" refers to that monk. "King" means that if a woman is invested with kingship and becomes king, that is also a king invested with the authority of the head of the royal family. If a royal, Brahmin, Jewish, or commoner is invested with kingship and becomes king, that is also a king invested with the authority of the head of the royal family. "Great minister" refers to ministers other than the king, astrologers, and those who belong to great figures and govern the country, as well as those who live in discord and depend on the king for their livelihood. "Having seized" refers to that monk. "Saying, 'Hey, you person'" is addressing with contemptuous words. Those people have faith and are very strict. It should be connected to "saying thus." "He is a thief" means stealing stealthily, which is a summary word. "He is a child" means not knowing oneself or not seeing the faults of this life. "He is a fool" means not knowing cause and effect or not seeing the faults of the next life.

Stealing is called stealing by force. The basis of stealing is the two, called "child" and "foolish." Therefore, "stealing" together with "beginning" is a word that is spoken extensively, spoken by the so-called "speaking tree." "Killing?" means to separate from life. Connect "they are faithless and do such great violence." "Binding?" means with the three bonds, made of iron, made of rope, and made of grass. "Expelling is also okay" means even making them have nowhere to go is okay. "Bhikshu" means one who has the object of a bhikshu. What is the object of a bhikshu? It is the fully ordained vows obtained through immovable karma and the four acts of karma. "That" is the expletive that indicates and universally indicates. The word "also" is for following the former, meaning not only will the former fail, but this one will also fail. "Having failed, one should not remain" is the same as before. Here, any bhikshu who is the same as the bhikshus in discipline, without abandoning the discipline, without causing it to decline, these words should also be connected as before. Here, the classification of the actual offense is: stealing or instigating stealing will lead to defeat. The distinction is: if a bhikshu, with a mind of stealing, recognizing that it belongs to another, moves an item worth more than one-fourth of a karshapana, it will lead to defeat. The agent here is: with a mind of stealing, recognizing that it belongs to another, moving an item of complete value. Here, there are six limbs that lead to the actual offense: the mind of stealing, not given, possessed by humans, recognizing it as such, complete value, and moving it from its place. If these limbs are incomplete, then one will be punished accordingly. The defeat of taking what is not given is the second. The beginning of the defeat of killing is: the Buddha, the Bhagavan, in the place of Spong Byed, was dwelling in the mango grove with flowing water and clusters of Udumbara trees.
