Recite at other times. (Not) approaching it like recitation, but reciting it from someone other than those who are fully ordained monks, with the same name, view, and discipline. If there is only one monk living there, he should repair the monastery, clean it, smear the ground with cow dung, arrange the lion throne, spread the cushions, and light the lamp. People should be allowed to listen to the Dharma. After that, sit in the highest position and look in all four directions. If there are fully purified monks with the same view, they should say, "Venerable ones, please come quickly! Today is the fifteenth day of the Sangha's Uposatha." They should say this and sit with them to do the Uposatha. If it succeeds, that's good. If it doesn't succeed, then the monk should bless it. This is how it should be done: he sits on his own seat, generates this thought, and also speaks it in words. Today is the fifteenth day of the Sangha's Uposatha, and my monk named so-and-so's Uposatha is also the fifteenth day. All the obstructing dharmas of my monk named so-and-so are completely purified, and I also think so. May the gods accept my complete purification. In order to completely perfect the aggregate of precepts of my monk named so-and-so, today I bless the Uposatha. When the Sangha is found, the Uposatha should be practiced extensively with the Sangha, and the Pratimoksha Sutra should be recited. Repeat this twice or three times. In a place where two monks live, it should be done in order. If it has not succeeded by the time the time has come, sit in front and say this to each other: "Venerable or long-lived one, please listen to me. Today is the fifteenth day of the Sangha's Uposatha, and my monk named so-and-so's Uposatha is also the fifteenth day. All the obstructing dharmas of my monk named so-and-so are completely purified, and I also think so. May the venerable or long-lived one accept my complete purification. My monk named so-and-so

Therefore, in order to fully perfect the aggregate of discipline, today we will bless the Uposatha. When a Sangha is found, then together with the Sangha, the Uposatha should be widely practiced, and the Pratimoksha Sutra should be recited. Repeat this twice or three times. Wherever three monks are dwelling, there it should be done in order. If the time has come and it is not yet completed, then sit in order of seniority and recite the previous blessing mantra in order. Wherever four monks are dwelling, there they should make a request and perform the Uposatha. There, the purification of the sick should not be accepted. Wherever five or more monks are dwelling, there they should make a request and perform the Uposatha. There, the purification of the sick should also be accepted. Whoever among you has an offense, confess it. If there is anything to be confessed, confess it; anything to be restrained, restrain it; anything to be blessed, bless it. So, how should the basis for discussion be established? In front of the assembly at the Uposatha place, individually examine the offenses of the past half-month, from the end of the previous Uposatha until now. Knowing the offense, remedy it through confession, restraint, or blessing, and abide in the position of Karma. The ritual and mantra for that should be performed as follows: If one knows only a single offense, or something to be confessed separately, or an evil deed to be confessed, then take off both shoes and kneel down in front of a fully ordained monk who abides in his nature, has the same view and precepts, dwells within the boundary, and whose offense differs in name and kind. Fold your palms and bow, stating the name and kind of the category of offense that has occurred, and confess and repent together. The mantra to be recited is said as follows: Venerable one, please listen. I, named so-and-so, have committed an offense of such-and-such name and kind. I, a monk named so-and-so, from the boundary of purification of that offense onwards.

I confess before the venerable ones. I do not conceal. I reveal. If I confess and reveal, I will dwell touching happiness. If I do not confess and reveal, it will not be so. Thus, repeat two or three times. The listener says, "Do you see the transgression?" The confessor says, "I see it." The listener says, "Will you abstain from now on?" The confessor says, "I will abstain." Thus, repeat two or three times. After that, the listener says, "It is a means." The confessor says, "Excellent." At that time, if a monk has doubts about a transgression, or if he is hesitant, that monk should ask the monks who hold the sutras, who hold the Vinaya, and who hold the Matrika, and dispel his doubts and hesitation about the transgression, and then properly remedy it before the monks. If he knows of any evil deed that should be guarded against, he should guard against it with his own mind. If he knows of any Sanghavasesa, or gross offense, or Nissaggiya Pacittiya transgression, he should bless it. This is how to do it: He should take off his two shoes as before, and squat down in front of a monk who is fully ordained, who is naturally abiding, who is of the same precept, who is dwelling within the boundary, and whose name and type of transgression are different, and with his palms joined together, he should bow down and speak the name of the category of transgression and the type of transgression that occurred, and he should say this: "Venerable ones, please listen. I, a monk named so-and-so, have committed a transgression of such-and-such name and type. I, a monk named so-and-so, now bless that transgression before the venerable ones and perform the Uposatha. Tomorrow morning, I will properly remedy that transgression again." Thus, repeat two or three times. On that very fifteenth Uposatha, if a monk remembers a transgression in the Sangha of monks, he should bless that transgression before the nun. This is how to do it: He should squat down in front of the nun who is sitting, and with his palms joined together, he should bow down and say this: "Venerable ones, please listen. Today is the fifteenth Uposatha of the Sangha. I, a monk,
