If a Bhikshu assembly like this proclaims three times, there is an offense. If one does not confess knowingly, then it is knowingly speaking a lie. Venerable ones, knowingly speaking a lie is said by the Bhagavan to be an obstructive dharma. This shows the fault of impurity. Therefore, a Bhikshu who desires to be completely purified of offenses should confess the offenses that are remembered and seen. If confessed, one will abide in contact with happiness. If not confessed or revealed, it will not be so. This shows the benefit of purification. Venerable ones, I have finished reciting the introduction to the Pratimoksha Sutra. This shows the conclusion of the recitation. Thereupon, I will ask the venerable ones, 'Are you all pure in this?' I will ask two or three times, 'Are you all pure in this?' If the venerable ones are all pure in this, then it is to be held as such by not speaking. This shows that the establishment of the introduction should be proclaimed. Thereupon, for a while, the meaning of the branch of reciting the transmission of the establishment of the introduction will be explained. Venerable ones, we should perform the Uposatha. This should be connected to performing the Uposatha in accordance with the place, the assembly, and the rituals. In what way should the Uposatha be performed? Therefore, it is said, 'Therefore, the Pratimoksha Sutra should be recited.' Because there are others who maintain the precepts by straightening the mind, preventing transgressions, and so on, in order to clarify these, it is said, 'The Pratimoksha Sutra should be recited.' It should be connected to reciting the Pratimoksha Sutra in the five ways. Reciting the Pratimoksha is the work of the elder in the Sangha. If that is not possible, then it is the work of the second. If that is not possible, then it is the work of the third. If that is not possible, then all should recite in turn. When it is one's turn, if one cannot recite, then one should entrust it to another. If that one cannot manage, then the Sangha should entrust it to that one. If the reciters can recite well without even half a word being mistaken, then they should recite, otherwise they should not.

So! If it is difficult to recite, let others recite the remainder. If reciting by holding a section, then those who correct the text, however many there are, should divide it into sections and recite. There are five ways to recite the Pratimoksha Sutra by the reciter: reciting the introduction, reciting the Parajika, reciting the Sanghavasesa, reciting the Aniyata, and reciting in full. Among these, reciting the introduction cannot be done incompletely. After reciting the introduction, the remaining parts can be completed by hearing and proclaiming. That is, after reciting the introduction, starting to recite the Parajika, the entire section of the Parajika must be recited completely. After reciting the Parajika, starting to recite the Sanghavasesa, the entire section of the Sanghavasesa must also be recited completely. After reciting the Sanghavasesa, starting to recite the Aniyata, the entire section of the Aniyata must also be recited completely. The sections of Parajika, Sanghavasesa, and Aniyata, once the recitation is started, the section that has been started must be completed. When starting to recite the sections from Nissaggiya Pacittiya downwards, the remaining entire Pratimoksha text must be recited completely, which is also called reciting in full. The sections that have been started must be completed; if they are not completed, it does not count. Reciting with fear, going together with those who agree on the meaning. If it is not possible to find those who agree on the meaning beforehand, then recite while walking. This is a special exception because it is said in the sutra that this work should be done while sitting. If you do not like the sound, recite briefly. If you do not like even that, then bless it. If it is not Dharma, the recitation does not count. The content to be recited, the time for reciting, the place for reciting, and the factors that hinder the recitation, if they are not grasped as they are, then this is a situation that does not conform to the Dharma. Not grasping the content to be recited as it is, is reciting other trivial content other than the Pratimoksha Sutra. Not grasping the time for reciting as it is, is not reciting the introduction and not completing the remaining parts through hearing and proclaiming. Not grasping the place for reciting as it is, is not doing it at the time of the Uposatha.
