By the power of (counteracting), those who can return and not cross the boundaries by mere words, those are the good people and horses, and they will surely win in the battlefield of afflictions. Those who thus truly accomplish individual liberation, will surely win from the battlefield of afflictions, and through the way of winning, the benefits of true accomplishment are shown, and its benefits have been spoken. By the power of showing the faults of not truly accomplishing, those who do not have this rein, and will never want to come, those people are disturbed by the battlefield of afflictions, and will lose their abode and wander around. This is what is said. The faults of not truly accomplishing have been spoken. Those are the things to do at the beginning, which is the ritual. Now is the Sutra.

When explaining the procedure for recitation, one should first make a request. When making the request, say: "Venerable Sangha, please listen! Today the Sangha will hold the fourteenth or fifteenth Uposatha. If the Sangha deems it timely and permissible, please grant permission. Today the Sangha will hold the Uposatha and recite the Pratimoksha Sutra." This passage is called the request, and it indicates the request for reciting the scripture. If the request is not stated, it is like acting without authorization, which leads to non-compliance. Here, the five Dharma masters who recite the Pratimoksha Sutra must perform this ritual of request before reciting. The reciter should ascend the lion throne, first beginning with verses praising the Pratimoksha Sutra and the opening remarks, and then proceed with this ritual of request. The phrase "Venerable Sangha" is used to express respect with honorifics, meaning "the assembly of the Sangha." "Please listen" means: Please pay close attention and listen respectfully. In the phrase "Today the Sangha will hold the fourteenth or fifteenth Uposatha," "Uposatha" refers to the practice of the three trainings (discipline, concentration, and wisdom), which are further divided into two types: Concordant Uposatha and Tranquility Uposatha. Concordant Uposatha is based on higher discipline, requiring consistency in location, assembly, and ritual. Tranquility Uposatha is based on higher mind and higher wisdom, practicing the limbs of abandonment. The later actions are restrained by the vow not to commit evil, so the Concordant Uposatha plays a restraining role. The earlier actions are purified through the method of practice, so the Tranquility Uposatha plays a purifying role. Therefore, relying on higher discipline, higher mind arises; relying on higher mind, higher wisdom arises, thereby practicing the three trainings. It should be known that nourishing and practicing these three trainings are the Concordant Uposatha and the Tranquility Uposatha. Here, it refers to the Concordant Uposa
