It should be accepted. If you have already gone, it is already accepted even if you don't say it, so you don't need to accept it again. The prohibition of non-cohabitation has been explained. In terms of making offerings and bestowing transmissions, (it says:) "To that Shakya Lion, join the ten fingers of your hands in reverence, and recite the Pratimoksha Sutra. For the sake of taming, listen to me." This was said. Shakya refers to the lineage, which shows the purity of the lineage in terms of household life. Lion refers to qualities, which shows the purity of knowledge in terms of monastic life, because the fearless ones frighten the deer of the heretics. The ten fingers refer to the ten fingers. Joining the palms means joining the ten fingers of the two palms together. These indicate offering. What should be done with the palms joined? (It says:) "Recite the Pratimoksha Sutra." This was said. The five ways of reciting the Pratimoksha Sutra, namely reciting the basis, reciting the offenses, reciting the Sanghavasesa, reciting the uncertain, and reciting the order, this is the general statement. Listen to me for the sake of taming, which means for the sake of taming the disciples, or for the sake of properly gathering, recite the Pratimoksha Sutra, please listen to me. These indicate the bestowing of transmission. Offering and bestowing transmission have been explained. In terms of making it a true practice, (it says:) "Having heard, the great sage, should practice as he has said, and be diligent in practicing even the slightest faults." Two verses were spoken like this. Having heard, refers to having heard the transmission of the five ways of reciting the Pratimoksha Sutra. The great sage refers to the teacher, the Blessed One, because he possesses the nature of discipline. As he has said, refers to not contradicting the Vinaya, not contradicting the world, as he has said. Practice refers to diligently doing it from the aspects of preparation, main practice, and conclusion. Faults refer to evil deeds, because they are condemned by the noble ones. Subtle refers to the established.

With transgressions, even the subtle ones, be cautious. Persist and make effort! This means to strive and be diligent in guarding, etc. If even the subtle ones are to be persisted in and acted upon, then what need is there to mention the great ones that are inherently transgressive? This should be understood. Constantly pursuing with effort, the mind-horse difficult to bridle, with a fitting hundred-nailed rein, this is the Pratimoksha. Constantly pursuing with effort means that this mind-horse, like a wild horse, when entering the virtuous path, which is like a path of ease, must always be pulled back and driven with the whip of diligence. The mind itself is like a wild horse. Difficult to bridle means that when entering the non-virtuous path, which is like a wrong path, it floats like the wind and is difficult to pull back and tame even with the binding rein. Fitting means appropriate and becoming a condition. For a wild horse that is constantly pursued with the effort of a whip and difficult to bridle with the bit of a rein, it is fitting and becomes a condition to whip it with a rein of a hundred sharp nails. For a wild mind that is constantly pursued with the effort of diligence and difficult to bridle with the binding of morality, it is only this much that the foundation of learning, the Pratimoksha with a hundred sharp and painful nails, becomes a condition. A hundred nails means that like the bit of a rein, it has many sharp nails, and this Pratimoksha also has many painful foundations of learning. A hundred is a word that represents many, not necessarily a fixed number of one hundred. The rein is this Pratimoksha. This means that it is like a rein. Through these, one accomplishes as the great sage has said, and by being cautious and diligent even with subtle transgressions, and by whipping the mind-horse like a wild horse with the rein of the Pratimoksha, it is shown that the Pratimoksha should be made to be accomplished correctly. It has been explained how to make it be accomplished correctly. The benefits of it are explained.
