fell down. The Buddhas, the Bhagavat, possess the Dharma nature of not forgetting, therefore, the Bhagavat manifested a non-leaf hut there and covered him. Then, the Bhagavat, together with the community of monks, after having a meal at the house of the householder Anathapindika, who gives food to the helpless, and having explained the merits, rose from the seat and went to that direction. Then, the Bhagavat withdrew the manifestation of miraculous power, and said to the monks: Monks, who is this monk Good-Arrival who subdued the Naga mango tree's waterfront? Monks, what do you think? Can this monk Good-Arrival now subdue even a small snake? Venerable one (replied:) No. Monks, since this is the case, these faults and other faults also arise from drinking intoxicating substances. Monks, those who claim to be my teachers should not even drink intoxicating substances with the tip of a blade of grass, nor should they feed them to others. Then, the Bhagavat awakened the venerable Good-Arrival and asked: Good-Arrival, why have you become like this? Bhagavat (replied:) Unintentionally. Sugata (replied:) Unintentionally. Then, the Bhagavat went to the monastery, sat on the seat prepared in the middle of the community of monks, and as before (said): Drinking grain wine and prepared intoxicating wine will result in a downfall. The place is Shravasti (Jetavana Monastery). The person is the venerable Good-Arrival. The affliction is that the habitual tendencies are not purified, unintentionally. The fault is drinking intoxicating substances. Among them, grain wine refers to wine made from rice and wine made from wheat. Prepared wine refers to: wine made from roots, wine made from stems, wine made from leaves, wine made from flowers, and wine made from fruits. Mixing these two types of wine together is called grain wine and prepared wine. Intoxicating substance refers to that which intoxicates when drunk. Drinking refers to swallowing into the throat. Committing a downfall means as before. Therefore, here the fundamental downfall is classified: a monk drinking grain wine and prepared wine,

The unboiled raw beer, the dregs of grain liquor, and the residue of adulterated liquor, if swallowed, cause intoxication; drinking what causes intoxication becomes the basis for a transgression. The agent of this is the act of drinking what causes intoxication. This has four branches that lead to a fundamental transgression: the very thing that causes intoxication, not neutralizing it, the act of drinking, and the state of being intoxicated. If these branches are incomplete, a corresponding penalty is incurred. The transgression of drinking what causes intoxication is the seventy-ninth. The basis for the transgression of going out at an inappropriate time is as follows: The Buddha, the Bhagavan, was dwelling in Jetavana-anāthapiṇḍada-ārāma in Śrāvastī. At that time, the venerable Ācāraka saw a Brahmin girl who had come to Jetavana to visit the monastery. Based on a playful incident, he thought, "From now on, if I continue to wander in samsara, I will not indulge in such defilements." Then, he went to the venerable Śāriputra and requested him to teach the Dharma. Śāriputra gave him instructions, advising him on how to focus his mind and urging him to be mindful. After that, the venerable Ācāraka, alone and secluded, diligent and steadfast, abiding in self-restraint, for what reason do sons of good families shave their hair and beards, don the saffron robes, and go forth from home to homelessness with pure faith, in order to realize the unsurpassed end of the Brahmachari life in this very life through their own direct knowledge, thus knowing, "My birth is exhausted, the Brahmachari life has been lived, what had to be done has been done, there is no more coming into existence"? He became an Arhat, free from desire from the three realms, with a mind that equates clods of dirt and gold, like the sky and the palm of the hand, like sandalwood oil left to age. He shattered the shell of ignorance with wisdom, having attained wisdom, enlightenment, and perfect knowledge, turning his back on worldly and desired gains and respect. The gods, along with their retinues, should worship, remember, and manifest him.
